Ask Yourself ---Jeanie Marshall

Ask Yourself

0

Every now and again when I am trying to stay focused on my pursuit of happyness, I catch myself asking myself a few questions. Not because I am crazy or like to hear myself talk, but sometimes we all can get sidetracked. So, I designed a way to keep myself on the path that I feel is best suited for me. If you aren't sure where you are going, or if you have problems going in one direction consistently, perhaps you should Ask Yourself the same things I do. I will share my top ten inquiries that I Ask Myself in order to stay focused. Ask Yourself and see if they help you. They may or may not, but who knows unless you try.

Take a moment and Ask Yourself the following:

1) Who Am I?
2) What Do I Stand For?
3) Am I The Same Person Today As I Was Yesterday?
4) Am I Doing Unto Others As I Would Have Them Do Unto Me?
5) What Purpose Does S/He Play In My Life?
6) Did I Check Myself First, Before Making Something Or Someone Else The Problem?
7) Since I Know The Problem, What Is An Amicable Solution?
8) I Know At First I Didn't Succeed, But Did I Try & Try Again?
9) If I Failed, Was It By Choice Or By Force?
10) If GOD Is The Captain, Am I Sure That I Am Second In Command?

Ask Yourself the aforementioned things. Some of them may render a swift answer, but others may take a little longer to find an answer to. That is good inquisitive process to go through. These are just some of the many things I Ask Myself, when self-reflecting to make sure that nothing, no one or anything throws me off my path to meet my end goals. While I encourage you to Ask Yourself these things, I am most certain the answers may not provide you with an answer to all life's situations and circumstances. But if you can find where to start then you are one step closer to finishing. Don't be afraid to Ask Yourself about Yourself. Only you truly know the REAL answers.

The Heat

Ok. I don't know what we did to the Sun but whatever it is, we are paying dearly for it. Whether you believe in global warming or not, our lack of appreciation for the environment and the earth as a whole is coming back to haunt us. We are having to deal with record level flooding, tornados that are rampant, and don't forget The Heat.

No, I ain't talking about D-Wade and Bron, I mean The Heat outside that disrespects you as soon as you walk out the door. It's so hot outside, they have to send advisory warnings out for people to drink plenty of fluids and to stay indoors in the a/c as much as possible. The Heat outside has no feelings either. It doesn't care if you are working outside, playing outdoors, taking out the rubbish, or just walking to the car, it will run up on you with the quickness.

Me, I hate to sweat, more than anything. It's just one of those bodily functions that I can appreciate, but don't care for. I would rather be cold/freezing then hot and sweating. But, The Heat could care less about what I like or you either. The Heat is on a mission and if you ask me it's winning. 105 degrees in the middle of a thunderstorm; c'mon mayne! How do you deal with that? It's a shame, but hey, we have to cope with it. I am sure it is a lot worse in other places; so let us not complain. Respect The Heat people, and don't find yourself laid up in the hospital because you decided you didn't want to hydrate yourself appropriately or stay in doors. Because if you do that, that means we gotta come out in The Heat to visit you, and neither of us are going to be happy about that.

I Love You Man/ Wo-Man

0

There is an another epidemic going on in this society. It has been going on for centuries and if I had to guess, I would say it has caused an unnecessary generational curse to stay in existence for way too long. Unlike most things, this is a race thing. This thing is destroying countless men and women in the African American community and no one seems to care. It's the plague of: I Love You Man.

Now, I know some of you are a bit confused, so I shall elaborate fairly quickly. All my life, I have been taught by every Man I know so be masculine, rough, tough, & hard core. But until just recently, I can't remember one male loved on, mentor, or friend that took the time to say these words, I Love You Man. For some strange reason, African American Men feel that they are emasculated when they display emotions to other Men. As if you become homosexual because you love your own son, brother, or father. This is no laughing matter. It is a serious issue and one of the number one causes why so many young black Men/Males are dying and being jailed at such a high rate. These young brothers don't get the I Love You Man from the places they should. So, they hit the streets in search of Love from gang membership, random women, and the countless children they produce with no intentions of supporting them. Or, they seek the I Love You Man from the respect they think they have earned by selling the most dope, having the most women, bullying the most people, and/or being feared by all. This is indeed problematic.

Sadly, this just isn't a Black Male thing at all. There are some African American Females that have articulated to me that they deal with the same issue. Mother, Sister, and/or Grandmother have never once said, I Love You... Wo-Man. This is so disturbing, because it leads these young girls/ladies on a path of destruction, as they spend their whole lives giving up their innocence, sharing their bodies, and/or enduring abuse just to hear I Love You. It breaks my heart to see young women, no babies, flaunting their babies around the store or the mall, when they should be flaunting baby dolls. They don't even know who they are as a young lady yet, but because they are seeking that I Love You, they are willing to do whatever it takes to feel Loved, needed, wanted, and special with no regard to the fact that s/he that is in her life doesn't Love Her Man. This is indeed troubling,

I would apologize for the length of this entry, but I am not going to do a disservice to this topic. My brother and I had an in-depth conversation regarding this issue the other day. Why is it that Men, especially African American fathers and others in the African American community don't show emotions toward their Male or in some instances female children. Dad, it doesn't make you any less of a provider or make your children respect you less because you hug them, kiss them, or tell them, I Love You. Mom, the same goes for you. Caucasian people and people of other races and creeds have mastered the art of Loving each other and saying it loudly and proudly. African Americans have mastered the art of having Love for each other, but not being able to display it. Maybe they just don't know how, because they never experienced it either.

But today, this has to stop and it has to stop now. It ends with you and I. I will lead by example. So here it goes...The FATHER, the SON & the HOLY GHOST, I Love You Man. Dad, I Love You Man. Eric B, I Love You Man. G$, I Love You Man. All my other male siblings, cousins, family members, frat brothers, mentors, goons, and any other males that are in my circle, I Love You Man. Not only am I going to write it, but the next time I speak to any of them, those will be the first things they hear me say, I Love You Man. Now, if I can do it, so can you. Let's change the world one, I Love You Man/Wo-Man at a time.

P.S.: Ladies, Ya'll Already Know I LOVE YOU!!!

Look Around You

0

Look Around You at this very moment. What do you see? I am sure some of you see your loved ones, while others may see a room full of material possessions. No matter what you see when you Look Around You, everything has some sort of value. Your family may be the only thing in the room when you Look Around You, but that is truly priceless. I would rather have a room chalked full of people who love, care, and adore me than be in a room of things that couldn't show me appreciation if their existence depended on it.

I ask again, Look Around You. What do you see? How do the things directly in your vicinity make you feel? Does the things Around You make you feel proud, accomplished, smart, rich or strong when you Look Around You? Do you feel like you have done well for yourself? Look Around You. If what you see right now was a snap shot of the life you life, would you proudly share it with the world or other people? If not, then you need to change your situation. Those things you see when you Look Around You may be the last things you ever see. So be careful what & who you keep Around You. Keep Looking Around You. The more you notice, the more you will see where you are versus where you could be. If you don't like what you see, then you know we won't. So it seems like its time for a change in your surroundings. Who knows? Look Around You, Look Around, Look....

Who Really Got Money?

0

Yo- What is up with people going to the club with duffle bags full of one dollar bills?!!! Is that truly stunting?!!! Besides that, you had to actually go to the bank while it was open and make a withdrawal for thousands and thousands of dollars in one dollar bills. I shake my head at you all. Stuff like this raises one question for me: Who Really Got Money?

If you Really Got Money, throwing out dollar bills isn't the business at all. If you Really Got Money and you plan on making a statement, throw out at least $2 dollar bills mayne. Like I asked before, Who Really Got Money? There is a difference between having riches and being wealthy. If you aren't sure, I will fill you in. Wealthy people don't necessarily feel the need to prove they Got Money. Instead buying 70 cars, $100,000 in platinum teeth and/or spending more money then they are bringing in, they play it smart. Most of them invest deeply and live meagerly. Rich people are more into status. They feel the need to make a scene. Like buying $1000.00 worth of t-shirts each month, because we have now become so uppity that we can no longer wear anything more than once. It's so ignorant! But hey, I guess since I don't Got Money, I am just hating.

Be it as it may, if you Really Got Money, then do something with it that matters. Stop investing in material things. Life is too short and there are so many people in this world, starving and homeless. Who Really Got Money? I guess we just need to look around and see how people behave. If they are still buying food stamps, drinking beer out of brown paper bags and/or driving cars that cost more then their house, perhaps they have riches, but I am almost sure, they don't Really Got Money. Just my one cent.
