Planking Explored

If you haven't heard of it by now, Planking is this new game that people are playing all over the globe. To try to describe it in words, it's the act of lying flat on top of random objects with your arms directly by your side and your head up. It seems like an innocent form of fun, but what little fail to know, well until most recently, thanks to rapper turned actor, Xzibit (tweet below) and history books that no one took the time to read, Planking is not a fun game at all.

Planking unfortunately, is a modern-day demonstration of how slaves were forced to lie on the floor board of ships as they took that horrid journey from their free homeland to an enslaved destination. Planks are pieces of wood that were utilized to create the flooring of these massive slave transportation vessels. Each slave was forced to lie flat on the Planks of the ships with their head up. They were then chained together at the neck, arms and/or feet in this Planking position.

For some odd reason, I never gained an appreciation for this Planking game, even before I really knew of its origin. It just didn't seem funny, interesting or intelligent to me. The sad part about it, is that once celebrities started Planking, then of course all man-kind had to join in. I know games are made to be fun, but sometimes we have to be careful to make sure we aren't mocking people who labored and died so we can have these so-called freedoms. I am not tripping, because most people, even when given access to education, continue to stay ignorant. So, Plank away people, Plank away celebrities, Plank away Ninjas. Continue to make us all so proud---SMDH!

Your Opinion

Every now and then I notice some people hang around conversations, but they never say a word. I mean, it could be a group discussion or a one-on-one talk, and they don't speak up or contribute to the talk. I know some people don't like to talk in front of groups, but these people won't even speak in front of their own friends and/or loved ones. I understand sometimes you just don't have anything to say, but at some point you have to speak up. I think some of these type of people, just don't want to talk because they aren't sure what to say. But I am here to say, Your Opinion matters so just say what you feel as long as you feel what you say.

Your Opinion on various topics matter a lot because it gives others insight as to how you think. Yes, some people may over talk you, get loud and/or seem uninterested when you speak. But you can't let these immature tactics detour you from stating Your Opinion. I encourage you strongly to share Your Opinion when you are asked or when you deem it necessary. If you don't share Your Opinion people will formulate an Opinion that may not be Your Opinion at all for you.

The only way to get involved and comfortable with stating Your Opinion is to immerse yourself into conversation. The more you do it, the more you will get use to sharing Your Opinion. Sure, you may not be right, or even close to accurate, but that is why it is called Your Opinion and not fact. You may be right or wrong, but if you never speak Your Opinion, you will never find out. Just like you matter so does your thoughts, concepts, ideas, perceptions, feelings and most importantly, Your Opinions. Start contributing to discussions today. Some people, like me, have been waiting a lifetime to hear Your Opinion and what you truly think.

The Tongue

Whether you know it or not, The Tongue is a very important muscle. There is so much power in The Tongue. The Tongue must be of major significance. If not, it wouldn't be housed inside your lips, behind your teeth, between your jaws and inside your mouth. Anything that needs that much protection must be something serious. The Tongue does so much more then we all know. Not just for the body, but in the words we speak each and every day.

The Tongue need not to worry about employment, because it already performs numerous actions every second, minute and hour. The Tongue holds your taste buds; The Tongue controls your pronunciation; The Tongue serves as a toothpick when you can't find one; The Tongue helps you swallow; and more importantly, The Tongue helps you speak. The Tongue should under no circumstance be taken for granted. If you didn't know, The Tongue is one of the most important organs in the body. Watch your Tongue. Be careful how you use your Tongue. And last but not least, move it out the way when you are chewing because LORD knows when you bite your Tongue, it makes you want to snatch it right out your mouth.

Burning Bridges

There are many wonders of the world. Some may argue that there are on 9, but I beg to different. Some things in this world make you think more in-depth about how mankind exist and the intellectual prowess of human beings. One of the most interesting structural wonders to me is Bridges.

Bridges, like people, come in all different shapes and sizes. Some of them are short, some of them are long. Some of them were constructed in days, or weeks. Some of them may have taken years or even a decade to design and construct. But, Bridges represent an important key to this life. Bridges allow all of us to navigate across other bodies of land, bodies of water and/or other Bridges to get from one destination to another. As a kid, I use to be terrified of Bridges. Who am I kidding, there are still some Bridges that make me feel a little queasy. However, I respect Bridges for what they are and the significance of there existence.

But, no matter how strong a Bridge may be there are elements out there like: wind, water and fire, that can bring even the most amazing Bridge to its demise. In a more human sense, I believe we have to be cognizant of the Bridges, otherwise knows as relationships we build between one another. Depending on the strength, or the lack thereof, of the Bridge between people; the fire of a disagreement, betrayal, dishonesty and or disloyalty can Burn a Bridge to the ground. The Bridges we construct between each other are just as important as the ones we drive on daily. And just as with the structure we drive on, we have to be careful not to Burn Bridges we have between one another. Burning Bridges eventually lead you to dead ends. If you feel like because you have used your Bridge (relationship) to successfully get to where you need to be and you don't need it anymore; I warn/caution you to be careful and think hard about the decision to continue Burning Bridges. The Bridges of the world may be rebuilt but some Bridges between individuals, once they start Burning or are Burned----no matter what you do, they can never be re-constructed.

Summer Time

Summer Time is here and in full affect. As much as humanly possible, you should be outside having fun in the sun and spending quality time with your loved ones. Summer Time is that special time of year where you might spot people of every race, creed and culture outside enjoying a buffet of fried chicken and watermelon. Make no mistake, African Americans aren't the only people who enjoy this combination. Plus, watermelon is a dessert, contrary to popular opinion we have to have some biscuits, mash potatoes, macaroni, or something. I disgress...

Summer Time is synonymous with vacation time. And if you haven't planned one yet, it would behoove of you to surf the net for one of those great vacay packages; get that leave slip from work approved; gather the family; and head out on an adventure that will be remembered for years to come by all. Take advantage of the Summer Time because work, school and haters aren't going anywhere. They will be right in the same place you left them when you get back, trust.

Summer Time is not just about the heat. It offers us so much more. I don't know what you all have planned for your Summer, but this Time I encourage you to do it big. You never no when this Time of Summer may end up being your very last time.

What Lies Ahead

Uncertainty is something we all have to face. There are so many things in this life we don't have answers to. We don't know what today will hold, let alone tomorrow. But in essence we all must live, until we find out What Lies Ahead.

The future is not promised, and the present is only as guaranteed as the time frame we are in right now. No matter how hard we try to predict, forecast and/or project, we can only live in the realities of the now, until that time comes when we find out, What Lies Ahead.

The problem with people these days is they put too much energy into things that just don't matter. While those things that do matter go unappreciated, unnoticed and unloved. No one, and I mean no one, on earth that is, knows where you or I will be this time tomorrow, or next week. Only HE knows What Lies Ahead. Since we can't see into our future, we should work diligently to maximize our moments in the present. For we have no idea What Lies Ahead. So don't put off until tomorrow, what can be done---right now.

White Privilege

Now, this may not be the most popular thing I ever wrote, but the above is a tale of what I deem--- White Privilege. There isn't one person on this earth, including Casey Anthony and her defense team who believes she was innocent in the death of her daughter. I am saddened to know that as Nancy Grace profoundly tweeted, "The Devil Is Dancing." I am not one to judge, nor am I one to improperly prosecute someone without a fair trial. So, now that Casey has had one, I am ready to render my verdict. This chick is more guilty then Churches Chicken is in killing people due to high blood pressure, hypertension and heart disease. She may have been found innocent in eyes of man, but one day she shall face HIM who is w-out sin. She shall pay the price as all of us will for our transgressions. While you and your team celebrate Ms. Anthony, the rest of us grieve. I pray that one of these days you find a way to atone for that which you seem to get away with---Murder.

Quality Time---Re-Visited

I understand now more than ever the importance of Quality Time. It's sad that sometimes we have to suffer the great loss of someone we love or cared for before we understand some of the most basic concepts in life like Quality Time. Quality Time, sometimes referred to as, QT, is important to all. Everyone needs Quality Time. Children need Quality Time with their parents, just as adults need Quality Time with their significant others.

Quality Time, whether we believe it or not, is very important and we must be aware of the significance of it to others. The murder, suicide and rates of violence is astronomically high and problematic due to factors like lack of Quality Time. Some of these issues could be solved with a hug and some love. Some people think material things matter and money buys happiness, but Quality is truly priceless/invaluable and there ain't a price tag in the world you can put on that. Thus, I encourage all of you to take a moment to spend a little Quality Time with those that matter while you still have time to do so.
