WTF Moment Births The Daily Word

0
Last night as I was updating the website, I had a flashback of a statement I heard from a gentleman when I was in undergrad. We were talking about writing and the importance of reading and being well-read. I will never forget, I was explaining to this gentleman how reading is an individualistic activity and normally people of color are not encouraged to read as a collective from childhood by anyone other than teachers. Doesn't mean all of them haven't been encouraged to read, but the large majority of children of color don't embrace reading books. That is when he said this, "If you want black people to miss something, all you have to do is put it in writing...."

At first I was appalled, shocked and offended on a number of levels, but even today I figure there is some truth to ever perception, opinion or lie. So, I want to do something about it. Because it bothers me still 'til this day. Thus, I am going to try to do my part. Beginning tomorrow, I am going continue to encourage all of you to read and help you expand your personal vocabulary by providing you with a new "Daily Word."

Each day from henceforward, I will introduce a new word. If you know it-- great! If you don't, learn it and use it. Perhaps I can't get you to read an entire book, but I can at least help you speak more intelligently by learning new and more creative words to express yourself. Just make sure you use the "Daily Word" in the right context. I will include the word in a sentence too, so you will know how to use it. So have fun with this please and use all of them at your leisure.
