Happy New Year's Eve. Yep, I cannot believe it either. But, we are less than a day away now from 2012. Time is flying by; at times it moves too fast and on other occasions it moves way too slow. I can't believe that we have experienced 364 days already. I am most thankful today for all of you who have experienced some of those with me and to those of you who have made a difference in the life of someone else in 2011. I encourage all of you to push yourself to take 2012 to the next level.

Adele's '21' Sets Highest Sales Figure Since Usher's 'Confessions'

0

    WENN

Adele's 2011 has ended on a high note: She's sold more albums in 12 months than any artist since Usher seven years ago.
The singer released her second disc, "21," in January and, boosted by a showstopping performance at the Brit Awards in February and the worldwide success of lead single "Rolling in the Deep," it enjoyed a long run on the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
Sales figures for the year from Nielsen SoundScan show "21" has sold over 5.28 million copies in the U.S. alone, the highest annual sales since R&B star Usher's "Confessions" in 2004.
Lady Gaga's much-hyped "Born This Way" trails Adele with sales figures of 2.03 million, while Michael Buble's festive album "Christmas" sold 1.96 million copies.

Why Jennifer Hudson Turned Down 'Precious' Role

0
 Dec. 26, 2011, 12:48 PM EST
WENN (FEATURE)
Jennifer Hudson has revealed she turned down the title role in "Precious" because she didn't want to pack on weight to play the abused single mom.
Fresh off her Oscars victory in "Dreamgirls," director Lee Daniels approached the singer/actress and asked her to consider playing Precious -- but she wasn't interested.
In her new memoir "I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down," Hudson writes, "As much as I was moved by this film, I wanted to try a role that had nothing whatsoever to do with my weight."
Newcomer Gabourey Sidibe eventually won the role as Precious, while Hudson became a weight loss icon and WeightWatchers spokesperson.

Let me begin by saying, Merry CHRISTmas to all of you. I am most grateful that you and I have been Blessed to see another holiday. Many have been called HOME and moved on to the UPPER ROOM, but GOD saw fit to keep us here another CHRISTmas and for that I am very thankful.

Today, as you and your family sit next to your CHRISTmas tree, open up and/or exchange gifts, take a moment to think of those who are not able to have that experience. More importantly, take a second to remember the true "Reason for the Season." No, it isn't about presents and such; it is about the birth of CHRIST and then spending time with family--point blank period. Somehow we have gotten away from the CHRIST in CHRISTmas and the holiday has become so focused on who spends the most money, gives the best gifts and the material things that come with the aforementioned.  And while it is nice to give to the ones you love, we must always remember, because of HE WHO WAS BORN IN THAT MANGER, we have been afforded life and the opportunity to live and love.

Enjoy your family, the new things you will receive, those gifts you have no use for and all that good ole' soul food. But I ask you to join me in a moment of silence and praise for those who are no longer with us and for HE who is the true "Reason for the Season."

~MERRY CHRISTMAS AND BAH HUMBUG!!!~

Can you believe it? Today is CHRISTmas Eve already. Is it me or did 2011 just fly by in no time?! Either way, it is almost over. I simply write today to ask you all to be safe as you go out today and pick up those last minute items. People are going to be running in and out of stores and driving like mad wo/men trying to get their holiday shopping lists completed. So be careful. Remember that gifts are great, but we must always keep in mine our personal safety. Now, I know it sounds ridiculous to be talking about personal safety and gifts at the same time, but as seen in the video of the new Air Jordans being released yesterday, where people got trampled and one dude even shot his gun to clear the crowd out of his way, I want to warn you. Also, the Black Friday experiences was crazy too. So, I ask you just to be mindful that some people go too far, and I want you to make sure you get a chance to enjoy tomorrow morning with those you loved the most.

Feature: 7 habits that keep you in debt

0

Sometimes things that seem like good ideas -- or harmless little indulgences -- can keep you from getting traction when you try to move ahead financially.
If mood-boosting shopping sprees and racking up credit card rewards are a part of your lifestyle, you could be fueling a dangerous debt addiction. Results of Card Hub's latest credit card debt study show that Americans accumulated $18.4 billion in credit card debt in the second quarter of 2011 alone. Credit card debt continues to be a major problem for the average American consumer, yet many are still living a lifestyle that supports a costly debt habit.
Here are seven bad habits that could be fueling your debt addiction:
1. Borrowing
Do you frequently borrow clothes, household items and even money from friends and family? If you always seem to be indebted to others in some way -- and fail to repay your debts regularly -- you could be addicted to debt. Find ways to make ends meet and stop relying on others to get by. The borrower mentality can leave you in a perpetual debt cycle.
2. Making impulsive purchases
Whether you're a Groupon junkie or just can't resist a sale, impulsive shopping habits could be fueling a debt addiction. Few people work with a budget for last-minute purchases, and if you don't have funds available, you're likely to use a credit card to get what you want. Curb those urges to shop deal sites and other last-minute offers.

3. Spending to boost your mood
If you indulge in retail therapy regularly, make sure you support the effort on a cash-only basis. If you rely on credit cards to get your shopping fix, it can be difficult to cover the costs of an emotional shopping spree without going into debt. Climbing out of debt will be that much more difficult if you've racked up huge balances to get your fix. Avoid shopping when emotions are running high.

4. Depending on cash-back credit cards

The concept of earning money for spending can be very seductive. If you tend to pay with credit just because you know you are "earning" a portion of it back in the form of cash or rewards points, you could be fueling a dangerous addiction to credit card spending. Cash-back credit cards typically pay you back a very small percentage of your charges -- think $1 for every $100 you charge. Unless you're very disciplined about paying off your entire balance by month's end, the money you earn back will barely cover the interest charges you acquired on that spending spree.

5. Routinely transferring balances
While it's smart to transfer high-interest balances to a low-interest credit card when you can, it's also easy to get caught in a game of "round robin" with your credit cards. When you find yourself paying off one credit card with another card, you could be setting yourself up for an endless debt loop. Pay off your balances, and stop using the cards to get off this dangerous cycle.
6. Living on interest-free financing plans
Zero-percent interest for the next 18 months and interest-free financing plans are great marketing strategies. Big-ticket items that can be financed with a no-interest offer seem like a great deal on the day of the purchase, but you could end up spending much more than you would have if you had paid with cash. The lure of "have it now, pay for it later" can be hard to resist -- and it will more than likely leave you with a pile of debt. Save your money for larger purchases so you don't end up carrying extra debt -- interest-free or not -- over the next couple of years.
7. Keeping up with the Joneses
If you're constantly comparing yourself with others and trying to outdo the neighbors with material goods, you could be fueling a debt addiction. One-upping friends and family by purchasing luxuries on credit can turn into a competitive sport -- a costly one. Avoid serious financial problems by living within your means and buying only things you can honestly afford. Trying to keep up with the Joneses can be the fast track to debt problems or even bankruptcy.

Just in case you live under a bridge or in a bubble, we are seven days away from CHRISTmas. People are flying to stores around the globe purchasing gifts for the ones they love and the ones that love them. I am excited for those kids who are anticipating getting goodies for staying out of trouble and being nice and not naughty. But at the same time, I am saddened by the fact that so many children won't receive or hadn't ever received a gift on CHRISTmas. Thus, I ask all of you to spare a dime or two to assist in providing a gift to those who deserve the same experience as your loved ones.

Those people from the Salvation Army aren't ringing those bells and fighting the weather just for the minimum wage they get paid. They are doing it because through donations from the public and other organizations, children who normally wouldn't receive on gift is spared the disappointment thanks to the donations of others. Even if you don't want to donate to the Salvation Army, I strongly encourage you to donate to Toys for Tots, or buy an extra gift and donate it to some type of organizations who gives the gift of happiness to many needy children through the form of CHRISTmas presents. I am not asking you to spend a ton of money; hit up the Dollar Tree or something. Just don't let a smile be lost on next Sunday because you choose to overdue it for your loved ones, but you couldn't find it in your purse, wallet or heart to help those who truly need your help.

Breaking News: Kobe Bryant's Wife Files For A Divorce

0

ORANGE, Calif. -- Kobe Bryant's wife, who stood by her husband when he was charged with sexual assault in 2003, filed for divorce on Friday from the Los Angeles Lakers star, citing irreconcilable differences after a decade of marriage.
Vanessa Bryant signed the papers on Dec. 1. Kobe Bryant signed his response on Dec. 7 and it was filed Friday, according to the documents.
"The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012," according to a statement from a representative for the couple.
In the filing, Vanessa Bryant asked for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's two daughters, Natalia, 8, and Gianna, 5. Kobe Bryant asked for the same in his response. Vanessa Bryant also requested spousal support.
The Bryants "ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season the public respect our privacy during this difficult time," according to the statement.
Bryant met his future wife in 1999 on a music video shoot when Vanessa Laine was 18 years old. Six months later, she and the then-21-year-old Bryant became engaged. They married on April 18, 2001.
The Bryants have been through trying times together.
Vanessa Bryant appeared at a news conference with her husband when he was charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman who worked at the exclusive Lodge & Spa at Cordillera near Vail, Colo., in 2003. She held his hand and stroked it tenderly as the NBA star admitted he was guilty of adultery – but nothing else. Earlier she had issued her own statement to the media, vowing to stand by her husband.
"I know that my husband has made a mistake – the mistake of adultery," she said in the statement at the time. "He and I will have to deal with that within our marriage, and we will do so. He is not a criminal."
A year later, prosecutors dropped the criminal charge against Kobe Bryant because the woman did not want to go ahead with a trial.
Last year, Kobe and Vanessa Bryant settled litigation with a former maid who accused the NBA star's wife of harassment. The Bryants countersued Maria Jimenez for violating a confidentiality agreement by talking to reporters about the family.

Feature: Best bets for jobs in 2012

0

By Debra Auerbach, CareerBuilder Writer

Looking forward to 2012, there is cautious optimism that the economy -- and the job market -- will continue to improve. The recently released National Employment Report from ADP, a private staffing and business services firm, showed private employers added 206,000 jobs in November. University of Michigan economists are predicting a brighter 2012; according to a recent study, the jobless rate should continue to drop to 8.8 percent by the end of 2012.

There's hopeful news for soon-to-be graduates, too. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers' Job Outlook 2012 survey, employers plan to hire 9.5 percent more graduates from the Class of 2012 than they hired from the Class of 2011. While many of those job openings will be triggered by attrition, it's still a good sign that the number is increasing.
What this all means is that things are starting to look up, but there will still be bumps in the road ahead. Yet some industries are seeing growth -- so much so that some can't fill their positions fast enough.
If you're a job seeker, consider exploring a career in one of these nine occupations, all of which are expected to grow in 2012.
1. Biomedical engineer
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, biomedical engineers apply knowledge of engineering, biology, and biomechanical principles to the design, development and evaluation of biological and health systems and products. This is one of the fastest-growing occupations, with an expected 72 percent increase in employment from 2008-2018.
Average salary: $82,421*
2. Computer software engineer
The computer systems design and related services industry has seen continued growth throughout the second half of 2011, according to the BLS. In addition, the NACE Job Outlook 2012 survey found computer sciences to be one of the top bachelor's degrees in demand by employers.
Average salary: $97,581
3. Customer service representative
This occupation is expected to experience faster than average growth, one reason being the high turnover rate in the field. This is also a good industry to consider if you are fluent in multiple languages, as opportunities for bilingual representatives are fruitful.
Average salary: $29,314
4. Home health aide
Home health aides provide in-home care, a service that will continue to be important as the elderly population continues to grow. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the number of Americans 65 and older is projected to be 88.5 million by 2050, more than double its estimated 2010 population.
Average salary: $28,173
5. Management analyst
Management analyst is an occupation in the management and technical consulting services field, a field that grew by 3.8 percent from September to October 2011 and has seen steady growth throughout the second half of the year. According to the BLS, management analysts study and analyze business-related issues and recommend solutions.
Average salary: $72,197
6. Medical assistant
The BLS predicts that the medical assistant field will grow by 33.9 percent from 2008-2018. Medical assistants often work at physicians' offices and perform administrative and clinical duties. Proper training and skills can be acquired by attending a one- to two-year program at a vocational school.
Average salary: $37,571
7. Network systems and data communications analyst
The BLS notes that this occupational category, with sizable employment growth projections through 2018, includes network architects and engineers, as well as Web administrators and developers. According to the Labor Department, the type of degree required depends on the position level.
Average salary: $48,316
8. Registered nurse
The registered nurse profession is the largest health-care occupation and is expected to grow by 22.2 percent from 2008-2018, according to the BLS. While RNs can be employed by physicians' offices, most work in hospitals.
Average salary: $71,692
9. Retail salesperson
The record-busting Black Friday and Cyber Monday retail sales show that consumers are starting to feel a little more confident about the economy. In fact, the retail trade has overall trended up since June 2011, with a slight dip from July to August. Due to this occupation's high turnover rate, employment opportunities are expected to be good.
Average salary: $25,557
*All salary estimates are from CBSalary.com and are the U.S. national average salary.
