black woman on computerWhen asked the question, “what would you rather live without for one full week: sex or Facebook…”, you would think, please, that’s a no-brainer. Turns out that 1 in 5 woman might not agree with what you think the answer might be.
Cosmopolitan magazine recently polled 2,000 readers about what they would be willing to give up for seven days; sex, television, their computer, texting and, of course, Facebook. While 20 percent of the responses claimed that they’d rather update their status on Facebook rather than sex, it was also shown that 57 percent and 50 percent refused to give up their computer or cell phone for intimacy.
What does that say about living in a world where technology rules over human contact?
Do you prefer Facebook over sex?

Feature: Detroit After-School Program Turns Boys Into Gentlemen

0

DETROIT — Brenda Scott Academy’s elementary school principal Ronnie Sim has started a “Gentleman’s Club” for boys to teach them not only the three Rs, respect, responsibility and reasoning, but manners as well.
Sims’ after-school program meets three times a week and students are required to wear jackets and ties.
BET.com reports:
Now, the 80 boys of the Brenda Scott Academy’s Gentlemen’s Club gather twice a week in the gymnasium and learn to properly shake hands, maintain eye contact and dress neatly. In addition to Sims’s revamp of the three “R’s”, boys are also introduced to Sims’s four T’s; Take Time To Think. And there is a dress code: older boys are required to wear jackets and all the boys must don ties; the tying of which is a part of the club curriculum itself.
“What I hope is that these boys will break the cycle of male irresponsibility,” said Sims. “I want them to make better choices.”

Whenever rapper T.I. visits Chelsea Handler’s late night talk show, you can bet humor will ensue! Fresh out of prison, T.I. laughed it up with entertainment’s favorite white chick who referred to the southern rapper as her “ex- boyfriend.”
“Well it seems like every time I leave here I’m going to prison,” T.I. joked. He later discussed the rumor about wife, Tiny giving him a “hand job” while in prison.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is on the new cover of Uptown magazine. In the interview with writer Chris Wilder, Vick discusses starting over in the league after starting his career in Atlanta with the Falcons.
“I am determined to become a better student of the game and I knew I had to work at it,” says Vick. “I was young when I was in Atlanta. I’m older now. I’ve been through a lot and I think I’ve matured. I had some good years there, but I’m just so thankful to be in Philadelphia right now. I could not have landed in a better city. This is my home. This is where I want to be, and I take this opportunity seriously.”

African American woman washes face
Don’t you wish you were one of those women who get up at the crack of dawn to get in that morning workout. Then you go to work feeling energized and not sluggish all day? It turns out that you can become a morning person! Here’s some tips from fitnessmagazine.com on how to make that happen:
Don’t Sleep In On The Weekends
Even though you look forward to being able to sleep in on Saturdays and Sundays, don’t do it! This throws off your body’s internal clock, making it harder to get up early during the week.
Get The Right Amount Of Zzzzzz’s
If you’re putting your head down at 2 a.m. every night and then wondering why you can’t get up at 7 a.m., chances are that you’re not getting enough sleep. If you need a full eight hours then make sure you get to bed no later than 11 p.m.
Create A Bedtime Ritual
Turn off the TV, take a hot shower and/or meditate about 30 minutes before you plan on going to bed. This will start to calm your mind so you can actually get in those hours that you need.
Stop Snoozing
Those extra 30 minutes you snooze through is not actually allowing you to get more sleep. You body takes a long time to reach a deep sleep so those extra 10 minute intervals are just messing around with your internal clock.

Feature: Nas Says "The Internet Is Satan"; I Think It's Twitter

0

In the latest issue of XXL magazine Nas celebrates his twenty years in music. For the November 2011 cover story he is interviewed by Odd Future’sTyler The Creator and they get into lengthy dialogue about everything from liking cheese to winning a VMA.  After Tyler admits that the Internet “drives him crazy” Nas replies that the “Internet is Satan”, he doesn’t know what Tumblris and that he doesn’t look at his Twitter page.
No I never look at it. I have a team that operates that sh*t for me. They’ll send me questions, and I answer them. That’s it. I was a prank caller when I was a young kid…I look at the Internet as prank callers. You don’t know who they are. They’re having fun. Actually, I’m not mad at that…You could do some good with the Internet, of course. But it’s, like, a man with horns. Not even a man–a dark force with horns–behind the whole sh*t”
Dark force? Has Nas listened to Tyler’s debut album? Ha! Read the full interview in the November 2011 issue of XXL Magazine.

Natural, But Neat--- Please!!!

0
It's no secret there is a movement going on with Sistahs today. The movement is not regarding equality and fair pay in the workplace or in relationships. Nope, this movement is all about one of the most marketable things in Black America, Hair.

Sistahs in droves today are abandoning the Madame CJ Walker invention, the perm, also known as "creamy crack." The perm was designed to straighten the hair of Black females in order to make their hair more manageable, and to make these ladies look more presentable to others in society. But today, as with most things in this life, there is a trek back to our origin--the Natural hair style or as I call it, "just as GOD gave it to ya!" I am so glad Sistahs are doing something for themselves. Especially, since you have to deal with ignorant Brothas all the time. These Sistahs are really making Natural moves.  They even began a sorority for women with Natural hair.  How sick it that?!! I am proud of the progress Sistahs have made for themselves and I support you to the fullest.

But (yeah, you know that was coming), I have one minor issue with this whole Natural Hair movement. Let me be clear, I am not against Sistahs going Natural at all. Personally on some, it really works. However, there must be a standard for the Natural look. The Celie on from the Color Purple hair-do is not the business at all!!! Just because you have abandoned the perm, doesn't mean you can no longer curl, style or at least comb your hair. Yes, we know it is Natural by looking at it, but can it at least be Neat. It is absolutely ridiculous that some Sistahs today are walking around looking like Hippies. Two words, "Ultimate Fail." It seems as if now it is a competition to see whose hair is the most Natural looking. That is fine, but you don't have to look as if you are living in a cave with not oils, grease or TCBY. Natural does NOT equal Nappy.

Ladies, do you and all of us a favor. Please, please, please do something with your hair when you wake up. Unfortunately, you are not like your Caucasian female counterparts; you can't just wash and go.   I mean no disrespect at all. Know we here at WoodWorkz support your Natural movement, but we need you to keep it Neat and presentable, just like (some of) you keep your attire and figure.

WTF?!!!

DETROIT  — An 87-year-old Indiana man arrested in Michigan with 104 bricks of cocaine in his pickup truck has told a judge he was forced at “gunpoint” to carry the load.
During a boisterous appearance in court Monday, Leo Sharp had trouble keeping quiet. The Michigan City, Ind., man was released on bond, three days after he was stopped for improper lane use while driving alone on Interstate 94 near Chelsea, 60 miles west of Detroit.
According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration state troopers with the help of a drug-sniffing dog discovered 104 brick-sized objects of cocaine Friday.
A criminal complaint signed by a DEA agent is thin on details, and there was no mention in court about Sharp’s destination.
Outside court, Sharp told The Associated Press that he’s innocent.

Feature: Why Can't Successful Women Keep A Man?

halle berry and jlo
Why is it that successful women seem to not be able to stay in a healthy relationship? Sure this doesn’t include ALL successful women, however, with the recent news of J.Lo getting another divorce, it made me wonder. Halle Berry could be another example. Both women are extremely talented and not to mention gorgeous. It seems like men would be jumping through hoops to date these beautiful women, but they sure have had their share of men problems.

A survey from EHarmony.com was taken that explained some of the reasons men may feel “intimated” by a successful woman.
For one thing, men are misreading you: “A mistake that lots of men make is assuming that the same skills that have created success in their professional life translate to their romantic life. If a man too often “brings the office home” with him, it can have a negative impact on his love life.  The same goes for you as a woman. If you’re busy, stressed out, and can’t get out of “work mode”… you likely won’t be communicating the soft, feminine woman inside you.”
It’s also about the attraction, not your success: “If you’re a successful woman, there’s something you need to know. Your career accomplishments aren’t all that a man is looking for. A guy doesn’t fall in love with an Ivy League degree, a six-figure income, and an impressive job title. He falls in love with a woman.Whether you downplay your success, or rely on it to draw men to you, the truth is that neither option will attract a man to you or make or break your relationship in the end.”
What do you think? Why does it seem as though successful women have a hard time finding and keeping a man?
