If You're Breathing, There Is Still Time

0

I don't understand why people give up on their goals, aspirations and/or dreams. I know sometimes people go through a number of things, that make them feel the end is near, but I am here to tell you, If You're Breathing, There Is Still Time. Whoever told you that there is some sort of giant clock that keeps up with by what time you are suppose to do this time, that or the other, is definitely wrong. While I do understand kids, marriage and other circumstances beyond your control present what may seem to be an insurmountable challenges, but that doesn't mean your life is over. If You're Breathing, There Is Still Time.

I am the eternal optimists. No one can ever influence me to give up on anything, especially my dreams. I know in my heart of hearts what I want to be when I grow up. Thus, I will continue working towards that which I believe is for me no matter what other people think. You should do so as well. You are doing better than ok. Trust, it could be a lot worse. So you need to learn to be grateful; what you don't have, may not be for you. But, If You're Breathing, There Is Still Time, for it to come if its meant to be.

So on last night I was watching one of my usual shows on CNN, "Piers Morgan Tonight," and his guest was the founders of Twitter. Also, in attendance was Martha Stewart, New Jersey Mayor Corey Booker, and others who frequently use Twitter. Do to disdain for mediums like Facebook & Twitter, I almost turned the T.V. But, I decided to tune in to see if I could figure out what all the fuss was about. Each guest discussed how their utilization of Twitter and how Tweeting has revolutionized the world as we know it. Humbly, the founders, who came up with the idea while sitting on a park bench in San Francisco, discussed how they thought people like celebrities would not use Twitter and how Tweeting has become an international/global activity. Now you all know, since day one, I have never been a fan of Twitter, but I must admit that it has some positive benefits.

Some of the correspondents on the show discussed how via Twitter, places around the world have been liberated of improper treatment and dictatorships. In most foreign regions, when there is a problem with the regime, the phones, internet and other forms of communication is usually cut off. But due to mediums like Twitter, that can be utilized from mobile phones, people are still able to communicate to the world at-large. I will be the first person to admit that, "lack of information is a form of ignorance, but if one seeks to be educated, they shall be ignorant no more." Thus, today, in usual form or fashion, I recant my previous rant about my dislike of Twitter holistically. While I still believe it is problematic because a lot of users abuse it by using it just to get attention. I can now see some positive aspects of Twitter. However, I still say to all you losers, "you are still losers!" But, to those of you who seek to Tweet to make a difference or for a purpose aimed at liberating/educating yourself and others ---Tweet On Little Birdie Tweet On!

Be Anxious For Nothing

0

Lately these days, I have been reminded of sermons I use to hear as a kid. I, like most people I know, spent more time in Church as a kid, then I did outside of it. Not that it was problematic, because I don't believe I would be the Man I am today, without some of the things I was taught and learned by watching Church-folk. Some lessons have stayed close to my heart than others. Particularly, the message about Being Anxious. Everyday, I have to remind myself to slow down and be mindful of a passage in the Bible that states, "Be Anxious For Nothing...." (Philippians 4:6)

Whether you believe like I believe or not, this scripture presents a unique revelation. When one is Anxious, they tend to be stressed or over-whelmed because they are seeking an outcome to something before it is time. Anxiousness can cause people to make improper decisions and render incorrect judgments about things that they would not have if they allowed time to take its course. Being Anxious can cause one to loose hope, faith, and belief in yourself and others. I know all of us get a little antsy/Anxious every now and again, but we have to be reminded to Be Anxious For Nothing. GOD or whatever ever Deity you believe in/serve has a plan for your life, that will most certainly come to fruition without your nervousness, doubt, and uncertainty. Be Anxious For Nothing. Have a little FAITH that in the end, all will work out in your favor.

Loving You

0

There is a song that says, "Loving You, is easy cause your beautiful..." Such a powerful message is trapped deep inside the melody. While the songstress may be referring to a significant other, I view it as a reference to another significant---You. Not him, her or them, but You. Loving You or Loving Yourself to be grammatically correct, is something that I tend to believe a number of us have forgotten how to do. Lately, it seems like all our Love is dedicated to others, and there isn't a smidget we can keep for ourselves.

Loving You is a matter of the utmost importance. Until you learn to Love You, You will never be truly capable of Loving anyone else. Sounds cliche' don't it? Well, it is the truth. Loving You keeps your self-esteem and selfp-efficacy in check. Once you Love Yourself, you set the bar as to how others should Love You. Loving You may be the key to your happyness and personal progression. Learning the proper way to Love You takes practice and is often put to the side to Love someone else. But today, I am sending you this note as a reminder that: when all is said and done, and you have given out as much Love as possible to everyone else, spend a moment, if just a second Loving You.

I Love Me Some Me, and You Should Love You Some You Too. Or Me!

Inspiration

0

Inspiration is like dirt; it can be found almost anywhere. Most of the time, Inspiration can be found in places you aren't really looking. Oftentimes, we should be Inspired by things, but we overlook them. Most recently, I have began to ponder about this thing called Inspiration. More so, because I don't feel Inspired much. But I think it's because I am missing those opportunities to be Inspired right in front of me, because I was expecting them to come further down the road.

There are a few things that Inspire me. Some of them are good and some of them not so good. For instance, and I am not joking, Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing" was/is my Inspiration to do just that, the right thing. Recent losses and occurrences, both physically and emotionally, are my source of Inspiration to go get myself checked out more regularly and be more mindful of my diet and health. You know we have this myth about doctors and hospitals, but if we don't get check ups, the hospital, or worse, the grave, is where we may end up. I know a lot of people tell me the t.v. is their source of Inspiration. Looking at t.v. doesn't Inspire me, but listening/making music does. I get most of my Inspiration from three sources: GOD, my family & the melodic sounds of various forms of music.

I ask today, where does your Inspiration come from? If you don't know, take a moment to try to identify your source(s) of Inspiration. Perhaps you will find that you should be more Inspired, but you are too busy fussing, cursing, and complaining. Seek to be Inspired. It may just be the difference between a prosperous life or one filled with countless tragedies, heartaches, and pains.

Sometimes I Wish I Could Disappear

1

Perhaps its just me, but Sometimes I Wish I Could Disappear. Not in the sense of leaving earth, but like instantly become invisible in certain situations. Have you ever felt like this? If not, its ok, but I do Wish I Could Disappear often. Do you know why? Well, I am glad you asked. I will give you an example of why Sometimes I Wish I Could Disappear.

So the other day I was traveling from Texas, back to Louisiana and I had a couple of hours between my flights. I quietly grabbed my things and went over to this area near the boarding gate where you can charge your items using free outlets or surf the web for free. My laptop wasn't dying, but just in case I needed it later, I decided to make sure it was fully charged. While I was waiting for it to charge, I pulled out my journal and began to update it. A few people walked by, charged their things and left. A few half asian/caucasian kids, even stayed and charged their video games and played amongst themselves. At this point, I was fine, but out of no where came Waka Flocka Flame's half brother, cousin, from another mother, 2nd removed from the family and his counterpart the love child of Juvenile and Nipsy Hustle.

Now, I heard these clowns even before I could see them. They were walking through the airport making so much noise. The first thing that came to my mind is, "please don't let them be black." Who was I fooling; I knew they were black and young at that. Mainly because anyone with any sense of maturity wouldn't act like that. Immediately, I Wished I Could Disappear at that very moment. The Waka Flocka looking one, had the nerve to come over to me and strike up a conversation. I was cool until he started asking me about Mary Jane in Puerto Rico; as if every black man in America smokes weed. But, I just answered his questions and chalked it up to ignorance. Finally, it was time to board the plane. It was my hopes that dumb and dumber would just board the plane, sit far away from me, and sleep the whole flight---Wrong!!!! These two idiots sat right across from me and were yelling, cursing, and using the N word like it was going out of style. I figured GOD was punishing me at this point. Again, I Wished I Could Just Disappear. Worse, Beavis and Butthead were on their cellphones the entire flight. Now anyone that flies knows you can't use cellphones at all during the flight, because it may interfere with the controls the pilots use in the cock-pit. Obviously, Ren and Stimpy didn't get that memo. I said to myself, "Mayne, if this plane goes down, Imma go out whooping their A$$es!"

I was so embarrassed and ashamed throughout this entire experience. One, all three of us were seated together, so people probably thought I was a part of their tom foolery. Secondly, we were surrounded by people of other races, namely white people, who probably were thinking, "N*ggas!" I wouldn't blame them, because I was thinking the same thing. Each time Cheech and Chong spoke, walked down the aisle with their pants near the ground, and/or took a breath; I just Wished I Could Disappear. There have been numerous moments like this one in my life. It's hard enough being black in this country, but sadly, other black people don't make it anymore easier for us. Thus, Sometimes, especially around your cousins, I Wish I Could Disappear. Or better yet, I Wish They Would Disappear Forever and Never Come Back!!!

Privacy Matters

0

Although, I have a very public persona, I am genuinely a very Private person. I know that sounds like a contradiction, but let me explain. I love being out and about when doing things with the fam or some sort of philanthropic activity, (i.e., adopting highways, mentoring kids, etc.) But, when all that is said and done, I love and very much appreciate my alone/Private time. Regardless of how much I like being "a man of the people," I enjoy my Privacy just as much. Perhaps, I enjoy my Privacy a little more than anything else. Well not more than...Oops, can't say that aloud. Whheww, that was a close one! I digress.

Privacy Matters. I don't understand people who like to put all their business or a$$ets in the street. I mean, they like to make it known, who they are sleeping with, dating, or courting. I don't understand why people do this. Then, the moment someone they know gets involved with the person they been flaunting around town, they are devastated and want to royal rumble it out. I don't encourage anyone to spread their business or even share it with more than a few folk. Because once the cat is out the bag, there is no recapturing it.

Privacy Matters. Not in the sense that you cheat, lie, still, or kill and keep it to yourself. That ain't Privacy! That is a crime or act that hurts others. I am referring to your personal life, goals, and aspirations. There is no need for you to walk around like a billboard displaying all your deepest and darkest traits and secrets. We really don't care; keep it to yourself. A little Privacy would be appreciated by all. One doesn't truly learn appreciate Privacy, until you have a house full of people or kids and then you have to steal what should be yours automatically---a moment of Privacy. I am telling you, Privacy Matters, more than you know. Wait to you need it and you can't find it; you'll see.

The Beginning Is Not The End

0

The old adage goes, "It's not how you start, but how you finish." That couldn't be more true. I think some people hit a rock in The Beginning and never attempt to make it to The End. In their Beginning, they are faced with many challenges, so much discouragement, and other obstacles, that they don't even try to push towards The End. But, I am here to remind you today that The Beginning is Not the End, it is just The Beginning.

You may start off slow, tired, unorganized, or unsure, but you can't be defeated in The Beginning. The only way you can make it to The End is if you preserver. Unless you choose to quit before you started, The Beginning simply represents the time where you chose to pursue something new or do something different. It's not suppose to be easy. Anything easy in this life, doesn't hold much value. The Beginning should be difficult, both rough and tough. It is just preparing you for what you may encounter down the road. But no matter how hard the journey may seem, you won't know what your future hold until you reach The End. Thus, I challenge all of you to look The Beginning in the face and tell it today; "you will not make or break me, because I know my Destiny lies at The End." Say it and believe it!

Complain Not

I think someone or something somewhere is trying to get our attention. There is way too much going on these days. The murder, rape and violence rate is sky-rocketing all around the nation. On top of that, we are experiencing schizophrenic weather, natural disasters and our countries continually engage in wars, even before we complete the one prior. All of these things make me examine my life holistically. Due to the fact that I know people who have done way more with way less and they did Not Complain; from now on, I will Complain Not.

I really don't understand the purpose of Complaining. It is Not like your situation gets any better because you choose to sit around and mope, talk or cry about it. Frankly, I believe everyone is going through their own personal situation/tragedies, thus, they don't really want to hear you Complain about yours. I mean, yes, you may be going through some tough/rough times, but it could be a lot worse. Look around you, if you have any doubt that your situation, isn't as big of a crisis as you think it is. It's real out there in the world, and you have a lot to be grateful/thankful for. Take a page from my New Life Development Play Book; Complain Not my people. It's not like a Complaint is going to get you any closer to the solution to your problem anyway. Find something else more positive to do. You claim you have Faith; Complain Not. Just Pray Until Something Happens (P.U.S.H.) Trust, it works.

The Driver's Seat

0

I remember as a kid walking down the road, and I use to see a ton of bumper stickers that read, "JESUS is my co-pilot." At that time, due to my lack of maturation, I didn't quite understand what that saying actually meant. But now that I am older, I get it. However, for me, I tend to see it in a different manner. While JESUS may be your co-pilot, and there is nothing wrong with that if he is, for me, in my life/vehicle, he is seated comfortably in The Driver's Seat.

I am not very religious, but I am a Bona Fide CHRISTIAN. Thus, I believe wholeheartedly in the HOLY TRINITY: THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY GHOST. I know without a shadow of doubt, that I haven't made it this far in life and I wouldn't be the man I am today without a little help/intervention from someone of a HIGHER POWER. Now, I am not trying to get you in any way to believe as I believe. But I know on many occasions, I was too hurt, too depressed, too broken and too defeated to be in The Driver's Seat; yet I always reached my final destination in one piece. It's like the FOOTPRINTS picture I use to always see. When the man said he only saw one set of prints along the beach and JESUS said, "It was during those times, I carried you." HE is always my Driver and carries me everywhere I go.

I am grateful to have been carried. And again today, as in everyday, I am glad that my HEAVENLY FATHER saw fit to get in The Driver's Seat. All the days of my life, I will continue to hop in the passenger or the backseat, depending on who's riding along, buckle up and enjoy the ride to whatever destination The Driver sees fit. You should try it too.

Self Preservation

0

Do you know what they do to animals that are nearly extinct? They take the last of the dying breed and move them to this resort for animals away from all other natural and wild life. There they allow them to live free, roam, eat, play, grow and perhaps procreate in an effort to re-populate the world with that species. This is all done in an effort to Preserve this type of animal, so that they are around for centuries to come. This process for animals is very important to the world as we know it. Just like it is of uber importance for you to Preserve your Self .

Self Preservation: The act of maintaining something in its original state, is something we all must strive to do. There is a need for you to take care of yourSelf in lames terms. You have to be mindful of your health, both mentally and physically, as well as what you put into your body. While some of us go to the gym and attempt to eat healthy, we all need to work harder and do a little bit better. What we put into our bodies, if not careful, can negatively impact us, and kill us. Exercise is important too. It helps raise our metabolism, which allows our body to break down that food we put into our bodies. A major part of Self Preservation, a proper diet combined with exercise, can lengthen your life if done right. But, don't overdue either one. Too much of anything is over kill.

I write to encourage you all to focus on your Self Preservation. No one should be more concerned with Preserving themSelf then You. Self Preservation is not just what you eat and drink, but it's also about what you do. Who you hang around or allow to be a part of your life. Negative people carry negative energy; which in time will cause you to become negative. Look out for them. Also, be careful who you give your body too. Any and Everybody doesn't appreciate your goodies and wouldn't know a good thing if it hit them in the face. So, let them ruin someone else's life who doesn't value their personal a$$ets, etc. You are indeed important to this life and this world. Thus, we all are counting on you to do whatever it takes to Preserve your Self, so future generations will be able to experience the greatness that is you.

Viva Puerto Rico:

Good afternoon you all. I hope this post finds you in the best of health and spirits. Over the course of the last few weeks, I have been traveling. As I entered airport after airport and landed in various places, I realized more than ever that I love to travel. I think there was a spirit in me awakened on this trip that reminded me that visiting the World/traveling is one of my first loves. Traveling allows me to kill two birds with one stone. Not only due I get to travel, but I get to appease my need to be a humanitarian/philanthropist along the way. Every since my first journey internationally, I realized that I want to see the entire World. I felt like a little Boy Meeting the most beautiful girl in the World. I was the Boy and that girl was the World.

I don't know if you all are as passionate about traveling as I am, but I absolutely can't get enough of it. I have heard from many business/sales persons who travel for a living that it gets old. But I have yet to reach that phase. I want to see all seven continents before my time is up and determine what I can bring to each of the places I visit. While I don't have a lot of money, currently, I do have all my senses. So, I can bring something besides my currency to various regions. I encourage all of you to stop wasting your vacations sitting at home or going one or two states away. The World is so big. There is so much to see out there. Every place I go, I experience diverse people, cultures, environments and customs. I have been fortunate to be well received by the local people as well. Probably, because I don't go to other countries trying to speak English. I always attempt to use their native tongue/language. This is an experience all in itself. You got to try it.

People, your life is passing you by. Everyday, thousands of planes, boats and cars are moving around the World. You should be in one of them, and I don't mean your own car going to work, to the store, or to your favorite restaurant. Each time I land somewhere I haven't been its like a wonderful attraction/encounter. The introduction goes like this, "World Meet Boy, Boy Meet World." You are welcome to join me on my next excursion if you like. Just let me know in advance and we can both be, "in there like swim wear."

My Way

0

I think Usher said it best, "I like things My Way." Am I selfish? I don't think so. I am extremely selfless as a matter of fact. But with so many things going on in this life, I refuse to be a part of things that are done My Way. That doesn't mean that I always have to have My Way. It just means, I tend to feel more comfortable in the Leader vs. Follower role. Now, I can be a Follower if need be, but trust I will use my influences if I have to. I think because I like to do things My Way, I am often judged unfairly. But people who know me better than most will tell you that just because I like things done My Way, doesn't mean you won't have a fair part in the process.

My Way is absolutely not the Way you probably would do it. But, My Way gives you room to move freely and share your ideas. That doesn't mean I will go with Your Way, but I will definitely listen to you and see if Your Way is indeed the best route to go. While I don't Com-Promise under any circumstances; I do truly believe and understand that My Way is not always the best Way. I am very comfortable in my own my skin, and I am just accustomed to doing things My Way. When someone or something comes alone, that gives me that same comfort level, I will quickly defer to them or that.

The moral of this is: If you are fine with yourself and you enjoy doing things Your Way, as long as you aren't hurting anyone in the process, keep on doing it Your Way. While others may or may not agree; it is your life and you should be the only one to live it.

I live by the old adage, "It's My Way or the highway." You Betta Ask Somebody!!!

Responsibility

0

Some of us have a lot of it, some of us have a little, but all of us have some sense of Responsibility. Whether or not we acknowledge it is a different story. Some people are indeed very Responsible, while others are the most Irresponsible people on the planet. But all of us, need to understand that we have a Responsibility to do what is necessary to make sure our family, friends, and colleagues get the best this life has to offer.

I try to be Responsible in all I do, but I am imperfect just like each of you. Sometimes it is very difficult and impossible to fulfill all the Responsibilities bestowed upon me. I think all of you have a common sense, thus you understand that being Responsible is imperative. The more Responsible you are, the more likely those around you will be more Responsible as well. Responsibility isn't always asked for, but if you have it, do right by it.

The Honest Face

I remember awhile ago riding the subway in New Jersey. I can't remember where I was going exactly, but I do remember an experience I had with an older women on there. I was sitting and when she boarded at her station there weren't any seats left. Now, because my G-Ma raised me well, I immediately got up and offered my seat to her. She seemed delighted at the gesture and sat down in my unoccupied seat. After a few stops, she beckoned me over. I was a little unsure what she needed, but I proceeded over to her. She put her hand around my chin and said, "son you have An Honest Face." I was puzzled. I quickly replied, "Thank You." But in the back of my mind I was thinking---W.T.H.?!

On the whole ride, those were the only words she said to me. Still today, I ask myself, "What exactly is An Honest Face or what does The Honest Face look like?" I wonder if now, over a decade and a half later, if I still have An Honest Face. I know, I am anti-lie, under any circumstance, but I often wonder if I still carry around with me, The Honest Face. Take a moment to look in the mirror near you. Do you think you have An Honest Face? Don't Lie! Look deep within that reflection that is you and see if you have The Honest Face. I can seriously say I am not sure if I do, but I hope that my Face isn't the Lying version. Honesty means an awful lot to me and it is my hopes that I will have An Honest Face for as long as I am here on GOD's green earth.

Limits

0

Who sets Limits? I mean, I know who sets Limits for speed and other Limits of that nature, but who sets those non-physical Limits. I am referring to Limits on things such as Love, Aspirations, and Goals. I ask because I am of the belief that a number of us operate under these Limits that don't truly exist. I mean, of course there has to be Limits for things in life. If not, people would go crazy. Could you imagine a world without a drinking Limit? Who would want to drive? I wouldn't even walk near a road. Heck, I would be afraid to walk in my front yard. So, I understand why we need those types of Limits, but Limits for ourselves should only be set by us.

There is this invisible barrier in front of all of us regarding Limits. We think that we are capable of doing it, but some how we never do it, because of this Limit that says, "we really shouldn't." Our subconscious is the worst at setting these nonexistent Limits. Our brain says, "hey you can't make it or you can't do that." Now, you know in your heart you can, but your mental has set this Limit for you, thus you don't even try. Fear also sets Limits for some of us. I was taught in my life that Fear is nothing but False Expectations Appearing Real. As the saying goes, "there is nothing to Fear, but Fear itself." Don't let your Fear Limit you.

No one or nothing should ever set a Limit for you as it relates to your own personal life. It's your life and you are the only person that should set the Limits. Now a life without Limits and a life with Limits from others isn't encouraged under any circumstances. But, a life with Limits set exclusively by you is the truly best way to roll.

Open Up Part Duex

0

I was always told, "close mouths, don't get fed." While it maybe true, it is apparent that closed people don't receive the things they deserve either. I know you have good reason for being "closed for business," but if you never Open, you won't ever get the things allotted for you in this life. You have to Open Up for that.

Now I know you have been: abused, lied to, cheating on, hurt and the like. But you still have to Open Up. Yes, you do have to be very selective because everyone doesn't have your best interest at heart. However, there is someone or something out there that does, and they should get the best you have to offer. Open Up and see what a brighter tomorrow looks like. Open Up and allow yourself to experience real joy, love, peace, and happyness. Trust, while you may have a lot to lose; Open Up right now and see how much greater you may gain. The odds are in your favor.

Go

0

Let me first begin by apologizing to my avid followers. Due to circumstances beyond my control and Verizon not supporting Puerto Rico fully, the kid experienced major technical difficulties as it relates to posting today. But, I am here now. I will keep it short and simple, because I know it's bed time for some of you.

Today, I write about a two letter word, Go. Now, there are a number of context as it relates to the word, Go. But I want to talk to you about moving from the stopped position in your life to the Go state of movement. There is so much out there one can do, but if you never, Go, or start moving, you will be stuck in the same place forever. Just Go. I know it seems real simple, but at times all of us need someone to give us a green-light of encouragement. Thus today, I want to provide you all with the permission to Go.

Go impact the world. Go change your life. Go make a difference. Go out and mentor. Go on and let go of your past. From hencforth, Go forward and be the best lover, friend and partner you could possibly be. Most importantly, Go be free. There isn't a thing in this world stopping you but you. So take your future in your hands today; remove you feet off the brake, lightly tap the gas and Goooooo.

The Round World

0

As I sit here on the cusp of another journey, I think about The Round World. More specifically, I wonder is The World Round at all? As I am still unsure, I believe it is my duty to find out. Thus, like Gulliver, I will continue to travel around the World. I really have a plan to travel what the globe projects as A Round World. Since I am inquisitive, I really want to know if it is indeed Round or Flat.

I would like to think I am a modern day explorer, like Americus Vespuchi, the true discoverer of these Americas. Although, I don't own large vessels with huge crews and sail the high seas; I still travel to explore things about The Round World. There are so many beautiful things to to see, diverse foods and cultures to experience and history to learn about. I think everyone should take time in this life to travel. Some people never leave their neighborhood, burrough, or state. There is so much our there than what you see on a daily basis on tv. Your ancestors paved the way for you to live, work, and travel, but, didn't get a chance too. On their behalf, you should take advantage of any opportunity you have to explore The Round World.

As I prepare to head to Puerto Rico today, I think about many of you who I wish was coming with. Actually, it is my hopes that you all will get tired of hearing about my trips and decide after reading this, that you decide to travel somewhere very soon. Don't let excuses like, "gas is too high;" "traveling is too expensive;" or "I'm afraid of plans," keep you from traveling. There are numerous forms of transportation and since we are near this post-recession stage in our economy, there are so many inexpensive travel deals available. Perhaps, instead of buying flat screen tvs, rims, and/or other things you have no real need for with your tax refund, you should book a trip to Six Flags, Disney, or a cruise to the Bahamas. Once you start to travel The Round World, trust me, you won't want to stop. Traveling is so addictive.

Speak Your Mind II

0

I was watching a commercial this morning and the narrator stated that humans have over 3,000 thoughts per day. That raises the question, "What is on your Mind?" As I think about this, I wonder with so many thoughts, why don't more people Speak Their Mind? I know there are some things better left unsaid, but some people don't Speak Their Mind, even when it is much needed. Don't be a push over, or people will continue to push you over. Learn to Speak Your Mind and feel comfortable doing so. Usually the people who Speak the most aren't saying anything anyway. So we want to hear your perspective.

I am a person who says any and everything out of my mouth. While I don't encourage you do that, I do think you should Speak Your Mind; especially, in those situations when you feel the need or you know you should. People who don't Speak, are often taken for people who don't have an opinion or anything to contribute to the world. Now, I know that isn't the case for many of you. Some people just follow that childhood rule: "Speak Only When You're Spoken To." But, there are indeed some times you need to Speak even when you aren't directly involved in the conversation. Now, this does take a certain level of tact. You just don't jump into random conversations and add your two cents, you wait until there is a pause or towards the end and then you Speak. But don't just talk to talk, make sure you are saying something poignant or meaningful.

It's absolutely okay to be shy or be a wo/man of few words. But it is not ok to not Speak Your Mind when needed. Please don't let other people Speak for you. You are perfectly capable of Speaking Your own Mind, so do just that. Speak, share your thoughts, opinions and facts. We want to hear what have to say. Perhaps you hold the answers to numerous questions we all may have. Just do it---Speak Your Mind. But please note, at some point enough is enough; don't be too chatty.

Learn To Recognize A Real Star---You

0

You ever notice that celebrities aren't as happy to see you as you are to see them. Well that because they don't know how to Recognize A Real Star---You. All of us have times in this life where we meet people that excite us and make us feel like a 9 year old girl. I remember seeing concerts videos where Michael Jackson had grown men fainting and crying like babies. Now, I can't say I would go that far, but then again I never me Mike Jack and unfortunately, I never will get the chance. But, personally I have never been moved by celebrities or their presence. I have met a number of them, and they all seem human just like me. The only difference between me and them is they took advantage of the opportunities presented before them, and I have yet to reach my destiny. Neither have you. I use to always be impressed by the talents of others, until I Learned to Recognize A Real Star---Me.

Each of you are a Star. No you may not make blockbuster movies or have platinum selling records, but someone around you thinks you are the bomb.com. With the media always shoving the successes of celebrities down our throat, it is hard to appreciate your own successes because we all find ourselves comparing our lifestyle to theirs. But that isn't a fair comparison. Each of us were dealt a hand from life's deck of cards. We must play our hand to the best of our ability, knowing that the DEALER sits on high and looks down low. HE is the only person that has a true impact on what we do and where we go. It is already written. We are all actors and performers in our day-to-day lives. Some of us teach, some of us coach, some of us drive buses, etc. It doesn't matter what your occupation is, you are A Real Star.

Every morning before you leave to go to work or when you get up, look in the mirror and Learn To Recognize A Real Star---You. You should be the most famous person you know. Don't let anyone tell you any different. While you may not have paparazzi running you off the road or bombarding you every time you step outside, that still doesn't mean you aren't A Real Star. Today, you need to celebrate your Stardom. Don't be afraid to sign a picture of yourself and wait to see who asks for it. If no one does, so what! Place it on your mirror, so each day, in case you forget who you are, or you are unsure, you will one day Learn To Recognize A Real Star---You.

Keep The Faith; Joy Cometh In The Morning

0

There are two things that have helped me endure many things in this life: My Grandmother (G-Ma) and Faith. Both of these are major factors and have contributed significantly to me being the man I am today. Oftentimes the two work collaboratively to keep me on the straight and narrow. Because of my G-Ma and Faith, I have been able to accomplish many things that I know I wouldn't have been able to do alone. When things were so bad and I thought I couldn't take another moment, both G-Ma and Faith brought me through it. I remember calling my G-Ma on a number of occasions, crying my eyes out and she would say, "Keep the Faith; Joy Cometh In The Morning."

At the time, I had no idea what that meant, but as I got older and began to go through more complex and difficult situations, I began to really understand. As I think about it, I always hear my G-Ma saying those words to me, especially when I need to hear them the most. Even today, when I think nothing is going in my favor and the world isn't satisfied with my contributions to society, she reminds me to, Keep The Faith; Joy Cometh In The Morning. Now, I don't know about you, but some of the most powerful things, come from those who aren't famous, preachers, or people you would expect it from. But you should receive it nonetheless. Whenever it seems like everyone is against you, you have done all you can, yet, you still can't stop crying, you can't stop trying, and you can't sleep; just be reminded to, Keep The Faith; Joy Cometh In The Morning. All you have to do is make it through the night. Because once that sun rises In The Morning and you do too---Joy Cometh.

The Mouth

0

The Good Book states, "Out of The Mouth, the heart speaks." I wouldn't disagree at all. The Mouth can be a very power, lethal, or deadly weapon. Some people release pure genius out of their Mouth, while others release pure venom. A special group, just releases pure hot garbage out their Mouth, because what they say doesn't contribute positively or negatively to any conversation/situations. Most people think the power is in the tongue, but the tongue most certainly would be homeless and nothing with out The Mouth. As we evolve as a human beings and mature, we have to be more cognizant of the power of The Mouth.

The Mouth, just like time, is a terrible thing to waste. I remember as a kid being told, "If you don't have anything good to say out of your Mouth, don't say nothing at all." I wasn't aware then, but I do know now, why that statement was/is so significant. People say all kinds of things out of their Mouth; some good, some bad, some intelligent, some just plain ol' ig-nant. Others just think because the are who they are, they are privileged to say what they want out of their Mouth (that would be me.) But, unlike some, my theory is this: I never say anything out my Mouth with the intentions of hurting anyone, with malice, or out of the scope of love for my neighbor. True, what I say out of my Mouth, may burn you like fire, but trust; it's all for the good. Or at least I try to make it so. Hey, my Mouth is a problem--I know it.

I think this whole Mouth topic is a wake up call for both you and I. I know I say ANYTHING out my MOUTH, but I am learning that I need a filter. Ok, truth be told, I knew awhile ago, I needed said filter. When I will be installing that filter, is still undetermined. I think its been in my possession for over a decade now. I'll get around to it. Moreover, it has come to my attention lately that some people no matter how I couch it, just can't take my truths. I would like to think the same thing applies to you and your Mouth. So I write today to put us both on Mouth Notice. In the words of my G-Ma, "I would hate for our Mouth to write a check our a$$ can't cash. Plain and simple---Watch your Mouth!

Colored Boys: The Beginning

0

To Whom It My Concern:

Mr. Tyler Perry, now that have won the NAACP Best Picture Award, I write ask you for your assistance. Oprah, you have your own network and enough money to make it rain on a small continent; so I need you aid as well. As a matter of fact, I could use anyone's help that is willing to wake up and face reality. I ask, "is anyone aware of the epidemic going on, right outside your door?" I mean, what is happening to our Colored Boys in this country and around the world is almost a crime against humanity. Oddly enough, as I paraphrase from Doughboy, "either they don't know, they don't show, or they don't give a damn what goes on in the ghetto!" I don't know where you have been for the last century, but the plight of Colored Boys in this country has been spiraling out of control since the ending of the Civil Rights Movement. Sure we can blame music, wars, gangs, movies, money, drugs, sports, and/or lack of fathers for the deteriorating culture of Colored Boys, but it's way more than all of those combined. Something is going on with our Colored Boys, and if no one does anything about it, they will be extinct like the dinosaur in the near and not so distant future.

Sir/Ma'am, I am not a fan of the dramatic, so please don't think I am stretching the truth here. The reality is that being a Colored Boy in America has about as much significance as being dirt. No matter where you are walking or driving, unless you are in Amish territory, you will see Colored Boys. The only time they get any attention is when they are running footballs, dunking basketballs, hitting baseballs, rapping, and a few are acting. But most of the time, those are the few that made it out. Sadly enough, some of them don't stay out. Because their will to be a role model is trumped by their will to have respect in the hood. The Colored Mentality as I call it. Colored Boys are dying, killing, and heading to prison at an alarming rate and no one seems to care.

Just yesterday, a story broke on the news regarding an 11 year old girl in a town outside of Houston who was gang-raped last november by over 20 men they believe. As the reporter was speaking, I was thinking to myself, "PLEASE DON'T LET THE PERPETRATORS BE COLORED!? But of course, that was too much to ask for. All of them, were Colored Boy/Men. Well if you rape a young girl, you don't get to be called any type of Man; I digress. Colored Boys are lost and have no direction. So it is of no surprise that they are shortening their own life span. I remember a few years back a klu klux klan leader said this, "We are officially disbanding our branch of the KKK here in our city. We don't need to walk around in these sheets trying to bring harm, fear, or death to these Ni**ers; they are making our lives better by killing themselves for us." While I hate the thought; it is so true. People, we need help now, before its too late!!! Our Colored Boys need me, you, heck all of us. If not, there will be a tomorrow, where Colored Girls, hell all Girls for that matter will be minus one option for a spouse---The Colored Man.

Please Help,

A Colored Boy

So, what is the big deal with people saying or asking you to say "I Promise." I don't think it is of any significance if a person says they Promise to do something or not. A liar is a liar, and as sure as they say, "I Promise," they will not do it at all. I have come to the realization that the word Promise is insignificant these days. I personally, am anti the word Promise, because I think it's misleading and I have learned that Promises are made to be broken.

For instance, lets take the Promise ring. What the heck is the purpose of that? Why do kids Promise to their Dad--That's just weird/gross. It takes a materialistic item to keep your private parts private? Get outta here! There is no way anyone is gong to make me believe that one is like, "So you ready to do this?" Starts getting undressed, looks at the ring and goes, "I can't do this; I Promised--My Dad/girl/boyfriend." What a sack if poo. That just doesn't happen! If it does, you sir or ma'am deserve recognition of the highest honor, like the Freedom medal from Mr. President himself. You are a jewel. And don't get me started on the Promises not to lie or cheat on you again. Once a liar and a cheat, always a liar and a cheat. You could be the next President of these United States, but you will always be known as a liar and a cheat.

Promises aren't for me. Don't ask me for one, and I won't ask you for one, for darn sure. I guess I should say that all people don't break Promises. But to me, those are the people who shouldn't have to make them anyway. I am one of those persons who refuses to say, "I Promise" or make a Promise, because I know there is a chance I won't be able to keep it. I only like to engage in activities that I have a greater potential of completing. But, please don't be moved, if you prefer people make Promises to you. Go right ahead. I ain't knocking your hustle. I am just sharing my 2 and a half cents regarding my thoughts on Promises. Don't pay me any attention; what do I know? Also, don't even waste your time or breath asking me if I Promise to do something, cause you will just be practicing talking to yourself out loud. I Promise you that!!!

Quality Time

0

If there is one thing I can say I have taken for granted in this life, it's Quality Time. I don't just mean the Time you spend with your significant others, but also the Time you spend with all your other significants. To me, Quality Time was just one of those things I was either too busy to do or just didn't see the need for. Since I have been single longer than the Jacksonville Jaguars have been playing football, Quality Time for me was only relegated to family. And since I usually live so far away from most of my family members, Quality Time soon became obsolete, except for holidays.

But today, or last night rather, I realized how important Quality Time is. No matter if its with family, friends, associates or complete strangers, Quality Time matters. I am a recluse, so Quality Time with me usually consists of movies, Dukes of Hazzard and Smoothie King. May not seem much fun to you, but I have a blast doing the afore. But now I realize more than ever, this ideal of Quality Time is of the utmost importance. Only by spending Quality Time, do others realize what level of care or adoration you have for them. Most guys, we just assume you women know we care. But fellas, its time for you to start speaking up, speaking out and just saying it. Ladies: Quality Time with him is not raping his ear drums talking about work or that new dress you want. Guys: Quality Time is not forcing her to watch you play Madden or watch a sport she has no idea about. Ladies, there is no field goals in basketball.

In all seriousness, all of us need to clear our schedules and start spending Time with those who we claim matter the most. It doesn't have to be a huge amount of Time, but we have to learn to appreciate people while they are still with us, instead of being filled with regret when they have moved on to that UPPER ROOM. Today, if you aren't too busy, find an old friend, family member you haven't seen in awhile, or husband/wife, that you really been distant from all week and plan something. It doesn't have to cost a thing. Quality Time has no monetary value, but it can mean to world and be priceless to someone else. It ain't all about you all the Time; spend some Quality Time with someone other than yourself, today.

Ain't No Future In Frontin'

0

On this wonderful Saturday, I want to take a couple moment to give you some advice that hopefully will impact your life greatly: Stop Frontin'!!! Now for those of you who have no idea what that means, I'll attempt to define. Frontin' (verb) is a form of behavior when a person(s) pretends to be something that s/he is not, for the purpose(s) of impressing someone or others. Example of usage: "Every Shantika/ Ricardo come in the club s/he be Frontin' like s/he got all this money, but we all know s/he live at home with momma." People who put up a Front, tend to live life in this fairy tale. So much so, that they believe their Frontin' untruths to be true. But just like lying, at some point you will run out of Fronts and will have to face reality. To that end, I say to you today, "Just Cut It Out; Ain't No Future In Frontin'!"

Now, I hear you. I know you are thinking, "Now that I know what Frontin' is, what is the whole: Ain't No Future In Frontin' spiel about?" I am glad you asked. It's more so that fact that Frontin' is a form of lying/acting. Once those around the Fronter figures out that they are Frontin' then the cat will be let out the bag soon for said Fronter. Eventually, someone like me, will most definitely call them out on their Frontin' ways. Or, people will allow them to keep Frontin' and talk about them like a dog behind their back. It's sad, but Frontin' is so popular in this modern-day society. Everybody is doing it like it's the latest dance craze. It's like people are afraid to be who they are for some strange reason(s). Know this: "If you were suppose to be something or someone else, that's exactly who or what the MAN upstairs would've designed you to be. So just be yourself--Quit Frontin'!

Listen, I know there is so much external pressure for all of us to be damn near perfect or larger than life. But, the truth of the matter is, you are awesome just being who you are. If you have to develop a persona or alter ego (Francois Dillinger) to impress others, they don't deserve to be in your life anyway. Don't Fake, Don't Flaunt, and most importantly Don't Front. Just be who you are. There really Ain't No Future In Frontin'. Once the Fronter is discovered; it's all down hill anyway. Learn to love you some---you!

Why WoodWorkz??

For those that don’t know. The reason this blog is entitled “WOODWORKZ” is because, my nickname as a young buck and back home is WOOD. And NO, it’s not what you all may be thinking… It’s even more juvenile than that… A KneeGrow called “Mike G” ( former wanna be D Boi and Pimp ) gave me that illustrious nickname because I had an old school Buick Regal, with a wood grain dashboard, Steering Wheel, Gear shift, and Dome Tweeters- yeah that ‘s right, Wood Grain Dome tweeters. And I would be remiss If I forgot to mention that it was painted CANDY PINK! Yes, it’s truly some REAL Southern Cult type ish, kinda like DUNK RIDERS in Miami! Anyway, that’s the source of the name of this blog. I posted it because I was getting a lot of Flak from classmates and associates about the name of the blog! Shout out to DJ!!! Who manages the day to day content on the blog, you’re brilliant my ninja! Or shall we call him, DR. FUQUA' PHD. Whenever he finishes his dissertation!

Oh Yeah, And here's a picture of the car now... Yes's I still own it and yes it still runs! Just close your eyes and imagine it's 10years ago, and every inch of this car is sparkling.... If you look all the way to the left, by the bumper, you can see how dark the paint was initially. It's not as hood as you would think... I'm in the process of locating some Pic's of it in all it's glory so stay TUNED...

The Treadmill Vs The Track

0

I get these epiphanies is the most weird places. Of course, with all that is going on in this life, diet and exercise are both very important. I don't have the least bit of problems with diet, but I like to only exercise doing things I enjoy (i.e., playing b-ball, flag football, softball, volleyball, tennis, or any other sport.) Running, just to be running; I absolutely hate it! But I need the cardio, so I force my flesh to get on The Treadmill at least once or twice a week. It's not that I don't like to run, but The Treadmill is so boring to me. No matter what tunes are pumping in my ear, or what's on the t.v. in front of me, I am usually bored to death. I can run for ages, but usually after about 3 miles on a great day, I just stop. However, I realized something the other day regarding my disdain for the Treadmill. It's not so much The Treadmill I despise, it's the fact that I am running in place.

Now you may not understand what I meant by that last line, so let me elaborate. I don't mind running at all, but the problematic piece with doing it on The Treadmill is I don't feel like I am making any progress. To me I am simply running in the same place. That is why in the future when I run, if I want to get the most out of my work out, I will utilize The Track. This whole Treadmill Versus Track can be taken out of the gym context and placed in our day-to-day lives. For days, weeks, years, and decades some of us have being running on The Treadmill. We've tried everything we could to move forward, but no matter what we do, we seem to be in the same place. Here is a tip: Get off that Treadmill and make a mad dash to the nearest Track.

We all need to take a second and identify those Treadmill moments in our life. Thus, when they try to re-appear, we can quickly shift to The Track. This life is all about being progressive & productive. You can absolutely do same thing every single day for the rest of your life if you chose to, but a life like that isn't worth living. There is too much out there that you have yet to do, and so much out there you have yet to see. Get off that Treadmill, lace up those new kicks and hit The Track today. See you at the finish line!

A Moment

0

Each and every one of us need A Moment. Sometimes we are going through things and we need A Moment to ourself with no interruptions. I don't foresee many issues with taking A Moment, other than the fact that people tend to annoy you to no end or need something from you right when you are trying to make the most of your Moment. A Moment can be a terrible thing to waste. A Moment can really determine whether you say something or not that you may regret forever. Or, A Moment may keep you from going to jail when ol' boi/gurl pushes you to your limit with the lying, cheating, etc. What you do in that Moment may ultimately positively or negatively affect the rest of your day/life.

I know in the hustle and bustle of this life, filled with so many necessities, it is hard to find time for yourself. But you need A Moment every now and then to keep you on track. That Moment is like pressing your physical re-set button. No matter what happened before you took A Moment, you can now decide what is going to happen as a result of you having to take A Moment. Today, I encourage all of you to stop doing the most, learn to slow down and take A Moment. Once you misuse or abuse A Moment, there is no getting it back. No matter how bad you want to take back what you said or did because you didn't take A Moment, you can't! You have to live with your choice to do whatever it is that you chose to do for the rest of your life.

Join me in this little exercise: Inhale....Exhale....Inhale...Exhale...Inhale....Exhale...Continue for about 2-3 minutes. Now that you have taken A Moment or two, you are ready to tackle whatever life challenge(s) is on the way.
