Shock Value 58: We've Got To Do Better
0
This is an official challenge to all you WoodWorkz Nationers and everyone you encounter. We have got to do better with the time we have allotted on this earth. Stop embarrassing me! I mean in our relationships, occupations, and personal aspirations. Too many people today are settling. I am not sure if its fear or they just get comfortable, but you have too many things going for you to just take what is given to you.
Today, unlike decades ago, there are more monies & scholarships available to minorities and students of all races to go to college. Most of the time I hear people say, "I want to go or go back, but I just don't have time." I once learned that the things you want are weeks of sacrifice to equate to a lifetime in paradise. Lets look at from another angle. So you are living from check to check each pay period and struggling to make ends meet anyway, and your not going to attempt to find another place of employment because? Or you know that your significant other is never going to be faithful, so you in-turn decide you are okay with having this don't ask don't tell relationship, when you know for a fact it is eating you up inside. Stop saying you are doing it for the kids! You are staying because you don't want to be alone. I guess it better to have 1/8 of someone than no one at all. I digress!
Anyway, people stop with the settling. There is so many opportunities out there. There are plenty of fish in the sea and if the one on your hook isn't the one you want, throw it back. There is truly someone for everyone. Don't miss out. As it pertains to that job you hate; start looking for something new. Regardless of what the media says, there are a number of jobs available. If you don't seek you will never find. You have to want more for yourself, before anyone else can provide you with more. If you are comfortable with just enough, then you will always come up short. We have got to do better. There is so much we have access to, not to do the most with it.

Shock Value 57: The Young & the Restless
0
I know when most of you saw the topic you thought I was talking about the soap opera that comes on CBS. While that is my favorite soap of all time and I had consistently watched that show for over 20 plus years and I had to wean myself off of it; that is not what I am talking about today. When I refer to the young and the restless, I am talking about today's youth.
The purpose of this communique' is to encourage all your parents, siblings, daughters, sons, aunt, uncles, and cousins to keep the young ones around you active. Most children and youth of all ages tend to find trouble when they are unoccupied and bored. There is only so much entertainment they can gain from their cell phones, surfing the web, and/or the television. If you don't find something PRODUCTIVE, operative word---PRODUCTIVE for them to do, they will. I can go on forever about the instances that young adults and children have found themselves on the wrong side of the law, simply because they were bored out of their mind. You know yourself how your mind wonders to the wrong place when you are bored too, so image being a child with no real distinction between right and wrong.
Now as an adult, we all know the difference from right and wrong. That still doesn't mean that we are perfect, but we must realize that the younger generation is influenced by forces that are way worse then what we experienced. The music and other forms of negative entertainment we grow up around influenced us too, but the young ones today are actualizing these activities. They are having sex, sexting (sending naked pix over text), robbing, stealing, and killing at an alarming rate. To counteract this phenomenon, I simply ask that you all get involved in the life of at least one young adult. Now if you aren't the most positive person, hopefully, the little one might inspire you to act like 702 and "Get It Together."
Be the change you want to see. If not, don't open your mouth when one of these pre-goons steal your car, rob you, or worse--- shot someone you love.

Shock Value: Entry 56 "The Body Is Your Temple"
0
Oh' Happy Day To You All-
In case you haven't noticed, most of my topics derive from conversations with people, stuff on television, or my own personal opinion. Today is no different. I most recently watched an infomercial on t.v., one of the commentators said, "the body is your temple, if you take care of it, it will take care of you."
Many people in this country suffer from health factors like hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. Each of these have to be managed or they will take your life. Mostly, to manage these, one has to manage their diet. We all need to watch what we eat though, not just people who have health issues. Gone are the days where even slim people can each whatever they want, when they want. There are repercussions for anyone who doesn't watch what they eat. You may not see it in your outer frame, but your insides are paying the price. Just make sure you are watching what you put into your body. The average caloric intake to maintain a healthy lifestyle is 2500 per day. You will be surprised how far over the 2500 most of us go---and I do mean way over. Just be more mindful of your eating habits, or they will eat away at you.
Not only is managing your diet important but exercise is too. So try to walk a little bit more when you can. Take the stairs and avoid the elevator. There are even some exercises that you can do if you sit at your desk all day long. Just by simply contracting and releasing your your tummy while sitting you can work your abdominal muscles. Exercise is important and I realize that everyone may not be able to go to the gym, perform the p90X, or run a marathon, but there is something for everyone. You just have to find something that works for you. If you love sports; pick up games of basketball, softball, tennis, volleyball and/or flag football is a good way to burn those calories too.
I am no health expert, but I believe through education, we all can save lives. Parents start watching what you prepare for dinner. Children start thinking about what you should or shouldn't be eating. Everyone be a little more mindful of both your diet and exercise. Remember: "YOUR BODY IS YOUR TEMPLE, IF YOU TAKE CARE OF IT, IT WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU!

Shock Value: Entry 55 "Family Matters"
0
Hola- I hope everyone had a great week. If not, the weekend is here, so it is over now anyway. Make plans this weekend that will make you feel better about yourself and your life. I am not going to keep you all too long but I wanted to touch on a topic that I believe is extremely important: Family.
Family Matters people. In my profession I speak to people all the time. You will be surprised how many people don't frequently speak to or visit with their own family members. I am talking about brothers who don't speak to each other over borrowed lawnmowers; sisters who refuse to talk because one doesn't like the others mate; or mothers who don't speak to their daughters because they have chosen a life that is not what they wanted for their child. All of these things are probably reasonable reasons for not speaking with another person, but is it really worth it?
Family is extremely important. No matter what you may think of your family members, you are connected through a rich blood line and your differences shouldn't separate you. We as humans are naturally flawed, so that means we aren't perfect in any manner. We must learn not to judge one another but to accept people for who they are. Family should get a special pass beyond what you give the other people you know.
Don't take your family for granted. There are people all over the world who would love to have someone to spend holidays with or just a normal week day with, but they don't have that option. Tomorrow isn't promise to any of us, neither is this afternoon. So today you need to find a reason to plan a family gathering. You won't get another family, no matter how hard you try. So if you can't change them, pray for them and continue to love them.
Family is a unit that should keep you balanced. The old saying is, " A family that prays together, stays together." So if there are divisions in your family turn on the power of prayer. Don't waste another moment alone. Family matters; so spend as much time as possible with them, no matter how much they get on your nerves. Trust we all have to do it.
Have a great weekend!

Today is a day to have fun! Its time to let all of the problems of the week go and embrace the weekend with extraordinary vigor! Be thankful that you have a job to be evaluated at and that you had the doe to pay that high azz phone bill- wit cha talkin azz...LOL.
Right now my sweet sweet grandmother is in the hospital with a serious case of pneumonia, thankfully they caught it in time and she's expected to make a quick and speedy recovery but it just reminds me that life is too short to live miserably. Especially when youre perfectly young and healthy. Like the old saying goes; health is wealth!
So go out and have fun! Celebrate your health. Find something fun to do today and if your funds are low, keep it simple. I have drafted a list fun activities you can do for the cheap:

Shock Value: Entry 54 "Women's Appreciation Week: "All Hail My Queen"

All Hail My Queen
My queen, it is such a pleasure to have a minute of your time
I was planning on coming to see you and explaining to you while you stay on my mind
I attempted to prepare a speech, but no word in dictionary would help me define what you are
So, I opended up my thesaurus and came across words like celebrity and shinning star
Still I wasn't satistied with what I came up with in adjectives, verbs, or nouns
So I grabbed a pallet and some paint to develop a picture that is profound
With each stroke, I felt myself limiting you with these shapes and color choices
The picture was suppose to speak to me but I continued to hear other voices
I needed to find another method to show you that you are more to me than life itself
You are not the equivalent to riches, but more like a generation of wealth
In this day and age I realize now more than ever that the best way to honor you is not through words but through my actions and deeds
Demonstrate to you that finally I get it; My purpose in this life is to take care of you completely, attend to not only your wants but all your needs
I am so greatful you are hear and I thank GOD that he saw fit to give me the best teammate on earth
Now I see it and I really appreciate your worth
I love you more than I could ever show you, but I plan on trying to
My goal is to do everything I possibly can just for you
I know you could have chose anyone to mother, love, or stand by, Lords knows I am happy you chose me
I worship you, praise you, and for the rest of your I am going to make sure you see
I bow down to gracefully show you what I say is what I mean
Gentlemen, Women, children of all ages; all HAIL MY QUEEN!
Have a great weekend!

You guys can go ahead and "Thank me Now!"
1Shock Value: Entry 53 "Women's Appreciation Week: "You Can Do Whatever You Put Your Mind To"
0
Ladies Ladies Ladies-
Good Morning to you all. In the spirit of love and support, I want to encourage all of you to keep on keeping on. I know sometimes you have to deal with circumstances beyond your control, (i.e. baby daddies who would rather buy rims and jordans, than diapers; supervisors who make your life harder because they are less attractive than you or as small as you are; and/or your significant other has forgotten that he use to buy you flowers and tell you he loves things about you every single minute of the day. Regardles of all those things, I want you to know that you can do whatever you put your mind to.
If it is one thing I know more than anything is a woman can do more with less. Perfection is in here sheer being and excellence and grace is in her blood. I grew up in a household where one woman did more with a pack of hotdogs than one could image. She made sure all seven of us at, when we knew sometimes she didn't eat just so we could. Sacrificing in the name of love. That is why women mean the world to me and should be praised by all. No man could do what a woman can and regardless of what people men say, we can not and will not live with out you.
So today my queens; be encouraged, stay focused, no matter what anyone says about you know that you can do anything you put your mind to. We love you, adore you, and thank you for being mother earth.
Your Servant,
Man

Shock Value: Entry 52 "Women's Appreciation Week: R.E.S.P..E.C.T."
0
Ladies-
Once again I want to say thank you for your existence. I am reminded by one of the greatest rap groups of all time, Goodie MOB, about how beautiful and precious a woman is. In their song, "Beautiful Skin," the verse states, "Your my beginning my end, your my sister lover and friend...., I hope that understand, you got to respect yourself before I can..." That epitomizes the role of women and this notion of respect.
In this day and age I believe women are going to extraordinary measures to gain attention or demonstrate their uniqueness. While it is important, to do you own thing, it is just as important to respect yourself. I am a firm believer in the idea that if you have it, you can show it off, but with limitations. Please leave something to the imagination or for that special someone who has worked to make sure you are his one and only.
I am a huge fan of women and personally believe women should have all the rights as men. I wouldn't mind seeing a lady in the White House and not just beside the President, but holding the title as President. But, to realize this we must all change our thought processes. In that same token, women must not only exude professionalism, but demand respect. If a man, woman, dog or another other being doesn't respect you, don't lower your standards, encourage others to rise up to meet yours.
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. is a funny thing. It can be earned or given depending on the individual and the audience. My ladies. I want you to know that how you walk, talk, interact, dress, and present yourself overall impacts the level of respect you will receive. Don't sale yourself short; you are more than worthy of the level of respect you desire. Just remember, "you have to respect yourself before I can."
Your Humble Servant,
Man
