Review: In The Flow With Affion Crockett

0
I am not sure if many of you saw it last night, but the Jamie Foxx produced show, starring Affion Crockett premiered on Fox last night. Now let me begin by saying I am proud that a brother has his on show on a major network. We are a very talented people, but oftentimes are talents are overlooked at major networks. So congrats Affion! He put a lot of work in, especially on YouTube and is deserving of his shot at fame and fortune. In The Flow is a sketch comedy show. If you aren't familiar with sketch comedy, it is framed like the grandfather of all sketch comedy, In Living Color or the most recent success, the Chappell Show. I only speak of those two shows in reference to In The Flow being a sketch comedy show, because unfortunately, it is no where near either of the aforementioned.

I guess as I get older, I am more aware of the plight of the black men in america or the plight of people of color in general. I am more cognizant of the way are portrayed in social media and television and the way we portray ourselves. While Affion Crockett is indeed a talented young man and I am very excited he is using his GOD-given talent for something positive, there is a line that even today's comedians must not cross. One of which is portraying the President of the United States as a gambler, a weed smoker or a person who gets it on with other Sarah Palin looking women outside of his marriage. Was this at all funny? Not in the least bit to me!!! Not only is this an election year, but President Obama has enough pressure/issues he has to deal with. Any light we shine on the brother from our community must be bright and progressive. He already has gets negative press/ure from the left.

In The Flow With Affion Crockett appeals to the portion of the population that Fox needs. Thus, his show will probably be a lucrative venture for he and Jamie Foxx. But it is no In Living Color or not even a close third to the Chappell Show. And we all know Dave offended everybody and their momma. However, Mr. Crockett I wish you and In The Flow well. I sincerely hope your show makes it through its first season. But this is one person who values his small amount of television time too much to waste it watching more negative impressions of a people who need uplifting and encouragement as they are dying and killing each other daily senselessly. How about you Sketch that!
