Happy Monday:
Today's Topic: There is some truth in every lie.
Self reflection to me is a very important trait that any good leader, friend, lover, and associate must have. Having the ability to self reflect sets outstanding people apart from those who are marginal. I know that we all have had times when we knew for a fact that the other person was extremely wrong in a situation, but how often do we view our role and see if it all could've been avoided had we done something different.
The reason I begin by talking bout self reflection is because it is important to go through this process when you hear rumors, lies, semi-truths and/or truths about you. Now, its important to remember that no matter what you do, good or bad, people are going to talk about you. There is nothing you can do about that, but you can make sure you deal with it appropriately. If there are telling the truth, embrace it. If they are spreading a rumor about you, brush it off. If they are telling a semi-truth, embrace the truth portion & remember the lying part. If they are telling a flat out lie, take a moment to dissect each part of the lie.
Now I know you are wondering why would I even pay attention to a lie, when its a lie?Well, because there is some truth to every lie. It may not necessarily be all true, but some people's perception, fair or not, is their reality. You have to be aware of this. Every word in a lie has some truth to it. It may not be a truth to you, but it is some one's truth, even if they are lying. Understanding this, may help you maintain healthy relationships with people who are around you who lie constantly or every now and again. Now, I am not saying keep these types of people close to you, but the ol' saying goes, "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." Yes, I define people who lie on you as your enemies. I believe in calling it like I see it. If you don't agree, cool.
No matter what you do in this life people are going to lie on you or about you. You must make sure that it is just that---a lie. The only way you can do that is by observing what people say about you. You don't let it get to you, but you pay close attention to it. Sometimes it may just make you aware that the place you were, the people you hang with, or the person you are talking to, might not be good look for you or your reputation. Like I always say, you get a lot of things, but you only get one time to be a liar, a cheater, or a thief, and you will carry that for the rest of your life no matter what you do. Just remember, there is some truth to every lie. Learn to distinguish between the two, before blowing off the entire statement. It may just save your marriage, reputation, job, relationship, or your life.
