Bougie As You Wanna Be

The Black Bourgeois or Black Elite of today's society is beginning to grind my gears. These people are often referred to as Bougie. The slang term Bougie is derived from the word Bourgeois which means socially pretentious. These social pretentious folk, or Bougie people tend to think their 'ish don't stink. Bougie people look down on the common blue collar worker and expect everyone in the world to give them the royal treatment. Just to be clear, Bougie has nothing to do with your socio-economic status or how much money you make. There are Bougie people on welfare, Bougie people living on disability, social social security, welfare, and WIC checks. There are rich Bougie people and poor Bougie people.

Bougie people come in all shapes and sizes. Although all of them get on my nerves equally, those Bougie individuals who tend to spend their money inappropriately bother me the worse. I mean, just because you have a few extra dollars and you can afford to take yourself to somewhere nice for once does not mean you all of a sudden have joined the upper echelon of society or the rich folks. You are still poor, classless, and don't mean a thing to society other than the fact that for one night you matter to your waiter or waitress who you will most certainly aggravate the hell out of and tip poorly. Bougie people with money annoy me as well, but not as much as those who are just as poor or impoverished as the rest of us. While I do believe there are kings and queens in the ghetto, none of them currently sit on a throne other than their own personal toilet(s). So don't you dare look down on other people or speak of them as if they were still 3/5ths a person. What I do know Bougie person, being privileged/spoiled is a Blessing and I have learned from life experiences that you should appreciate things when you have them. The LORD giveth and the LORD taketh away.
