What's Happening?
I know this is a holiday weekend and all of you all got big plans. If not, Essence is taking over New Orleans this weekend and their are a number of hot movies out at the box office. Today I am going to talk about: Knowing when to say uncle "when."
Now, most of us tend to believe that we can do anything we put our mind to. That was instilled in us from childhood. Teachers, parents, coaches, and the like all expressed to us that if we put our mind to it, work hard, and never give up, we can reach our goals. I believe this to be true, with one slight adjustment. You can do anything you put your mind to if its for you to do. I spoke previously about setting goals and never giving up. This topic is a nice marriage of the two.
You can put your time, hard earned money, heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into something, but it may never materialize for you in this lifetime or the next. That doesn't mean you didn't deserve it or didn't properly prepare for it; it just means it wasn't for you. My advice to all of you today is: know when to say when or enough is enough. Stop trying to hold on to dreams, men, women, and/or friends who obviously don't want you. Now, it is probably more easier said then done. But the first step to moving on, is stepping forward. While I always caution you against moving backwards, I encourage you all to understand that letting go is not giving up or quitting. Especially, if you have done all you can or more than enough. You must realize some things are out of your hands and beyond your control. Some people simply need more than you or I can give them. Even though we love them and want to protect them, maybe we aren't the ones to save them.
Long story short, its okay to let go sometimes. Especially if it's having a negative effect on your life and your surroundings. As triple six mafia says, "don't save her/him, they don't want to be saved." While I don't care for most of their music, that point makes sense. I am tired of seeing you all struggle and suffer because you are trying to hold on. Let go and let GOD people.
Know when to say uncle.
