I like to refer to myself as the Eternal Optimist. In my recent interactions, I have gained a new understanding of Optimism and Pessimism. Also, I have learned that many people don't really know the difference between the two. Thus, let me take a moment to define them.
*Optimism |ˈäptəˌmizəm|
noun
1 hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something : the talks had been amicable, and there were grounds for optimism.2 Philosophy the doctrine, esp. as set forth by Leibniz, that this world is the best of all possible worlds.
• the belief that good must ultimately prevail over evil in the universe.*Pessimism |ˈpesəˌmizəm|
noun
1 a tendency to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst willhappen; a lack of hope or confidence in the future : the dispute cast an air of deep pessimism over the future of the peace talks.
2 Philosophy a belief that this world is as bad as it could be or that evilwill ultimately prevail over good.
Now that that is out the way, I hope each of you understand a little better what it means to be Optimistic versus Pessimistic. It is my belief that Optimism Is A Pessimists' Kryptonite. I truly believe that people who are Pessimistic in nature are a walking force of negative energy. I often refer to them as Debbie/Don Downers. They can drain the life out of dead plants. Pessimists always trouble me, because they are the constant reminder of the obvious and its like pulling teeth to get them to understand that just because something is this way at the moment, doesn't mean the ending result has to be the same.
I may be biased, because I don't have a Pessimistic bone in my body. I always seek the bright side of everything and look for the good in every situation. I mean, I am a Realists, thus I realize that some things, no matter how smart, strong, talented, or Faithful you are, just won't come to past. But hey, that just means it wasn't meant for us in the first place. However, Pessimistic people don't seem to understand that we are all working toward a common goal, to complete that which we started. They often cause unnecessary conversations and breaks in the pursuit of our daily goals and life's challenges for no reason, other then to be Pessimistic. I wonder if Pessimists are born that way or they inherit their negative behaviors from others around them or from their surroundings in general. Whatever it is, keep your unsupportive, depressing, and discouraging comments and thoughts to yourself. The rest of us have dreams to see into the realization phase. You just sit there and continue to be the loser you are---Pessimist person.
