Shock Value: Entry 142 "Education Is Power"

0

Happy Friday!
I know you all are overjoyed.
The weekend is here and you can finally do it b.i.g.,
if you like.

Today's Topic: Education Is Power

I am not so certain people in the free world, these United States, understand the importance of Education. It almost sickening the number of people who are actually finishing school these days. I mean children are dropping out earlier and earlier every year. Yes, parents, media/entertainment, and other negative influences are share in the blame in this. I recently had a conversation with a group of students who alluded to the notion that there is no point of finishing school when everyone else they know who graduated from high school, college, etc. are right back at home either trying to find a job or trapping for a living.

While I understand that this may be true in a number of cases it does not hold true in all cases. Education Is Power. And I am not just talking about classroom education. There are so many opportunities for us all to become more learned individuals. Simply by cutting off the tv, and picking up a book could take us on journeys to places that we have never been before or don't really exist. I think culturally we all need to put more of an emphasis on the basic essentials, the three Rs: reading, writing, and arithmetic. There are so many more options available to those who obtain an Education. No, you may not earn a six figure salary, but you are statistically guaranteed to earn more in your lifetime them someone who doesn't have a degree at all, high school or college. Now, I do consider myself an educator, but I understand the value of street knowledge, and yes that is Education.

I don't know your situation and I am in no way judging, but if you can go back to school, continue your education. There are so many possibilities our there. Yes, some successful people don't have degrees, but the numbers aren't as outstanding as you may think. If you don't plan on earning a degree, take a few classes, gain a special skill. The opportunities in the work world are already limited, don't count yourself out because you are being lazy or think college is like high school or it is too hard. It's just like life, it's what you make of it. Education Is Power, and without power we all would be sitting in the dark.
